hi, for all you experienced mums out there, when does it get too hot to take toddlers to the beach/pool, is it still ok to use the beach/pool in the mornings/afternoons in late April/early May?

I'm trying to manage the flow of visitors after bubs is born (due early March), SIL and BIL want to visit and stay with us for 10 days with their two kids (1yr old and 2.5 yr old) beginning of April. I kinda feel like that will be a bit early for me to cope with visiting toddlers so want to push them out till mid-end Apr when the grandparents will also be here to help with the kids and when hopefully I'll have had a little more practice at this parenting lark! (albeit that will mean having 6 adults, a newborn and two toddlers in the house at the same time!).

SIL wants to take her kids to the beach while they're here so ideally I want to be able to say that will be ok for them to go to the beach/pool end of Apr as long as they avoid the middle of the day but obviously can only say it if it's true! appreciate your thoughts/experience!

Thanks!

We took our little fairhaired one to the beach all summer long! As the summer got hotter we just went earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon. We had a long sleeved swim top, hat with the bit at the back, spf50 and water and she happily played in the beach throughout the year. April and May or still very comfortable avoiding the midday and the water is warm enough to play in, like Glenfiddich says until April the water can still be quite fresh :)

Thanks Glenfiddich, that's really helpful and reassuring. Are your kids also around the same age?

Thanks! End April is actually the best time to take them. It starts getting warm in April, so by end April it is quite pleasant at the beach. I would still go until end May - always avoiding the middle of the day, of course, but after end May, we are inside. In March, believe it or not, it is still quite chilly.
