Hello Ladies,
Im 35 weeks now and the baby has been breech for ages (plus my amnio fluid has been on the low side, though still normal). So the chance of her turning by itself are slim so decided to use a chiro's help.
Found dr Ahmed at tne Canadian Med centre (AD), im told he is good but dont know anyone who used him for this purpose.
Have you got any recommendations?
Much appreciated...
Regards!

Thank you for taking the time to write Kiwispiers. I saw both the OB and the chiropractor this morning so im a lot clearer on the matter. I was offered an ECV but declined it (being told to bring your hospital bag on the day just in case an emergency section is necessary hardly fills you with confidence:)). I was strngly advised agaist waiting for labour to start if the baby is still breech for exact reasons you described. So it would be Scheduled for 39+1, which Im ok with (thank you for your positive view of a c-section, feel better about it). The chiro told me I should have come earlier but still thinks we can have a good go. So I will be seeing him twice more this week. Must say that my uterus and ligaments felf much better (more relaxed) Immdiately! And the pain during walking dissapeared too, as a bonus. So fingers crossed:)

Since babies can turn last minute, do you know why (apart from convenience:)) they advise to do c-sections at 38-9 weeks? Thanks again for any advice basically to avoid you going into a natural labour if the baby is still breech, which could potentially be dangerous for you and the baby and also might mean you have to have your c-section under a general anesthetic if there wasn't time for an epidural to kick in. There would be no guarantee that there would be a theatre/anesthetist/surgeon immediately available the second you arrived at hospital so you might be in quite a bit of pain etc while you waited...also it is very unlikely (although possible) your baby would turn past the 39 week mark as there isn't much room for them to do so and you would definitely be aware of it happening ( I had a friend whose baby turned breech at about the 36 week mark and she could see her whole stomach move and feel it strongly). You would definitely expect them to do a scan before the c-section though just to make sure though. If it makes you feel better, a scheduled c-section is very controlled and the recovery usually seems to be much easier than an emergency one. I had a scheduled one at 39.5 weeks (so we did wait but at all my check-ups he wasn't engaged and I wasn't dilated even slightly) due to my baby's position and although I was quite scared and upset at the prospect, the reality was much less painful than I was anticipating. After the first 24 hours I only needed panadol for a week or so (and I would forget to take it so I really wasn't in a lot of pain. I had no problem walking around, doing washing, cooking etc the minute I got home from hospital and no delay with my milk coming in. I think a lot of the really negative stories you hear about c-sections are when women have a long labour followed by an emergency section and the baby has to be yoinked back up the birth canal so the internal bruising/disturbance is much more. The other advantage of a scheduled vs emergency section is you have your surgeon of choice rather than the one on call, and you are probably therefore more likely to have your birth plan advocated (in my case my surgeon ensured I kept may baby on my chest during the surgery, and in recovery which I most likely wouldn't have got in an emergency section. Not that I'm trying to talk you out of natural birth, I'm pregnant again and think I'll probably go for VBAC this time, but really a c-section isn't that bad at all (in fact it sounds much less painful than the natural birth stories I've heard, for me its just that I think it would be hard to obey the no heavy lifting rule afterwards now that I have a 14kg toddler to look after too)

Sorry, one more thing. I had a few people ask me recently why I simply do not wait till labour starts naturally and then have them check the position of the baby as soon as I get to the hospital and have a section if it's still wrong. That kind of makes sense, doesn't it?? Since babies can turn last minute, do you know why (apart from convenience:)) they advise to do c-sections at 38-9 weeks? Thanks again for any advice

Im seeing my doctor tomorrow and she might offer an ECV, though the idea of it is very unappealing. Unlikely to go for it, especially that I dont really know the doctor that would be doing it and I have heard that they need to be skilled at it. So I dont feel comfortable letting anyone perform a procedure that I see as a little risky (especially because my amnio fluid is lowish). Made an appointmenr for tomorrow with a chiro however and an acupuncturist for moxibustion for Thursday as I see both of those techniques as least invasive..:) Will let you know if there is any result:)

I also had a breech baby who didn't turn until week 36. I panicked until week 35, had made a chiro appt for week 36 and then decided to try Hypnobabies "Turning a Breech Baby". If you google it, you will find their site and you can download the tracks. It sounds bizarre, but I did it twice a day for 1 week and by my next OB appt, the baby had turned. I didn't need to go to the chiro or do the ECV (which frankly, freaked me out). Worth a shot. Good luck!

Has your OB offered you an ECV? That's where they manually turn the baby externally. Google it for more info. I had it done, I think I was about 36-37 weeks. It is really freaky, quite uncomfortable for the mum & not always successful, but it worked for me. We got her down the right way! Good Luck!

Oh, sorry, regarding swimming - my gyne tells me to continue keeping away from too much activity (because of lowish fluid) so I havent been even swimming... You know how they tell you to be careful - it's hard to go against they advice as it makes you feel you are putting your baby's health at risk!

Thanks Jacky, I have heard about it but find it SO weird:) Just dont get how it could work, though have heard many people say it does:) I will check how can get hold of the stick (and then make sure nobody sees me use it!:)) I know. I was shocked that it worked. Only tried it because my Ob gave me a stick and said to use it. And I really, really did not want a c-section!!

Have you tried moxibustion? I'm far from a naturalist (give me a drug whenever possible!) but when one of my twins was breech, I got a stick from my ob. They tell you to burn it and hold it near your little toe and when I did, my babies totally started moving. It was the strangest thing. Also swimming is great as the gravity helps move them. There is a great website with brilliant suggestions for turning a breech baby ...
