Sorry for asking such a stupid question. I always assumed it was from birth date but somebody mentioned if you have your baby before 40 weeks you should be calculating from 40 weeks onwards for development tracking purposes etc. So that means this week my son will be 2 weeks old not 4 weeks.

Is it from the due date or from the actual birth date?

2-3 weeks isn't really a big difference in terms of development, the milestones are really just averages and the variation between babies is much bigger than two weeks anyway, I wouldn't be adjusting age at all. I can't really think of what a four week old baby should be doing that is different to a 1 week old, except for things like being more alert, having better day night rhythms or not pooing meconium etc anymore, which would be related to how long they had been out of the womb, not an adjusted age. is there something in particular you are worried about?

So his development should be on level with other 4 week old babies even if he was born at 37 weeks and others at 40 weeks?

Unless your baby was seriously early then I would go from the day they were born. 2 weeks is considered full term and I wouldn't make any adjustments at all. My DS was 4 weeks early but after the first 2 weeks we didn't make any adjustments. For babies born at 35 weeks and before you would adjust for longer.
