To those that are pureeing foods; we have 2 blenders, neither of which completly puree the food. Harry still doesn't like that texture. He prefers proper puree; like the ones from the HiPP jars (suitable for 6mths). Any idea on how to get the food like that?

Thank you ladies, some good ideas. Yes, I always use the cooking liquid to puree. Will try the sieve. No, I don't want to add fruit to his food. We have just come off Ella's kitchen stage 1 which is mostly fruit, which does not fill him up. I have now got him onto HiPP regular food for 6mth olds, as it's very very smooth. He is loving the turkey and veg cassrole, veg risotto etc. I don't believe I'm making a rod for my own back. Unfortunetly, Harry does not like any texture or lumps, makes him gag and then puke. I never wanted to go down the puree route, however my son had other ideas. He's happy on puree, he's full up and he's eating normal food without fruit added to it. He's 11 mths this week, we'll get there in the end. Just a shame he wont eat my food at the moment. But we'll keep trying.

We use the braun heavy duty stick blender in a narrow mug to reduce the surface area that the blender works on. Add ample liquid left over from steaming the fruits/veggies and you should get pretty smooth puree. I'll do one pear at a time or half a well softened carrot at a time with no issues getting smooth puree. Hope this helps!

If you add more liquid and then push through a sieve you'll get the same texture. However it is making a rod for your back really, I found with all 3 of mine that if I added baby's favorite fruit to whatever I was making they'd eat it up.

What about the blender they sell at Just Kidding, it is specifically for babies. Otherwise, check this link for the Philips Avent steamer and blender, a family friend recommended this to me but we did BLW so I never pureed, but she said it was great. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-AVENT-Combined-Steamer-Blender/dp/B003MAJ5OC/ref=cm_sw_em_r_dp_EOorqb13ZVGHD_tt

I had the Braun hand blender which didn't work because it had 2 blades, the good thing with the Kenwood one is that it has 3 blades, it really made a difference! Also, are you adding some sort of liquid like breastmilk/formula or water? That also makes the texture alot more smooth, if I blend the fruit/veg alone the texture is too thick - now my purees have the same consistency as the jars

I use the Kenwood Tri-blade hand blender and it does a really quick job of making the food totally smooth. I add abit of formula as well when blending to get a nice creamy texture. Then I freeze it. I bought it from Spinneys in Mercato. http://www.kenwoodworld.com/uk/All-Products/Blenders-Mixers-and-Meat-Grinders/Hand-Blenders/HB712-Hand-Blender-0WHB712001/
