Mine have all woken up at 5-6 no matter what time they went to bed. The only thing that seemed to help was putting extreme blackout curtains (and in one house, aluminum foil on the windows!) to keep the light out. Mine were very sensitive to the change in light even before I noticed it.
Hmm, that could be a reason as the windows are not completely blacked out. I'll have a look in to that as well.
so do you start the day then if they woke up before 6 or did you try to put them back to sleep?
Start the day, unfortunately!

Thanks for the replies Mrsg1 and champagneblonde.
I stopped doing dream feed a while back as it didn't seem to be working. She still kept waking up at 3am even after the dream feed so I stopped it. She then dropped the 3am feed and now wakes at 5-5.30. She sounds fully awake but I haven't waited it out to see if she will cry or settle back to sleep. I feel I should feed her right away before she wakes up too much which would make it harder to settle her back to sleep. The reason I don't want to let her cry it out at that time is because I worry she might be hungry after having slept 10hrs with her last feed at 6.30pm. Am not keen on re-introducing the dream feed as she gets enough formula during the day and don't want to add another bottle. Also she's quite big for her age - nearly 10kgs - and doc said to give water instead of formula incase of night waking so another reason I don't want to re-introduce dream feed.
I'll try not to go in to her today and see if she settles back....please pray she does :-)
Mrsg1, she doesn't sleep too well in the day. Has short naps of 30-40mins in the morning and late afternoon and about 1- 1.5hr at lunch time. it does take a bit longer for her to settle down for her naps and I sometimes have to help her so maybe that's why the 5am waking is difficult for her to go back to sleep. Will work on getting her to sleep better during the day and hopefully this might help with the 5am waking.
If not I guess I should start praying now that she'll sleep longer once solids are fully established in a month or so...sigh
Hi Taurusbaby do you dream feed? if you dont then i would try this. if you do, when she wakes up at 5-5.30 does she cry or just stir? my LO started stirring at this time but i would leave him and he would go back to sleep until i woke him up at 7.
also does she sleep well in the day? as if she doesnt this could be the reason she is waking at 5. i feel for you though, 5am is totally the middle of the night for me still :)
The dream feed might be the key in getting her to sleep longer? I'm not even going to attempt to stop that one until about 9months of age, when he is consuming decent amounts of food.
Hi TB!
My LO is also 6 months & has just dropped his 3am feed all by himself.
Goes to bed at 7pm, dream feed at 11pm & then sleeps until mostly 7am...
If he occasionally wakes earlier than 6:30, I will not get him up or feed him. He needs to learn to amuse himself & often falls back asleep unassisted. What I will do though, is go in, make sure there no poo in his nappy, give him a dummy, give him a quiet toy... And then leave him to his own devices in his cot. The first time I did this, he did fuss & I let him cry it out, it was a heartbreaking 50mins!!! But it worked, the next day he settled himself again quickly, his sleep is only getting better & more predictable & he's happy, well rested.
Did the same with my now 2yo when she was about 7.5months & she has learnt to be an excellent sleeper- 7:30pm-7am, hardly ever stirs... I'm hoping for the samevwith this guy, eventually!
I'm not an advocate of letting them cry at all!!! But it worked in this situ, for both of mine... It's just very hard to stomach for the mumma!!!
My LO is 6 months and for the past month has started sleeping through the night which is great, but she always wakes up between 5 - 5.30. We have bath at 6pm followed by a bottle and then she's usually asleep by 7pm latest. She'll then sleep through until 5 - 5.30. When she wakes I give her a bottle and treat it as a night feed so no lights or talking. Sometimes she falls back asleep right after the bottle but most time I have put her back to sleep (as she seems sleepy still) with lots of rocking and shusshing - she'll fall back sleep by 6.30 latest and then wakes up again 7/7.30 for the day. This is the only time I rock her as falls asleep by herself at bedtime and naps.
Am wondering if I should push back her bedtime in the hopes that she'll wake up later? What time do you put your LO to bed if they are waking up at 7? Any suggestions on what I could do....
