Weaning advice?

Hi all,
I started giving my LO solids a couple of weeks ago as her Dr suggested starting early. I just want her to get used to having solid food in her mouth and am still just giving 1 spoon of pureed veg or fruit once a day mixed with milk.
She seems to enjoy it, opens her mouth all the time to have the food put in but after a few seconds, spits what seems to be most of the food out again. She must be swallowing some of it but I would have thought that she would be getting more used to it after 2 weeks of it and actually swallowing more food?
Im not worried about it as she does enjoy the feeding experience and eats more of somethings than others. Its fun, we both enjoy it and she does eat a little I suppose but just wondering how long it normally takes before they start actually swallowing the food we give lol?
Also, Ive been giving solids for just over 2 weeks now - should I move on to twice a day rather than just once a day?
Any advice gratefully appreciated!
TIA!

Is your reflux baby bottle fed or breastfed?

It's true that there is no increase in allergies if solids are introduced after 4 months although the 6 month guideline is not actually about preventing allergies but rather about getting optimum nutrition and decreasing risk of gastric infection. WHO and AAP currently advise waiting until after 6 months for these reasons. Anyway do long as you offer milk before a feed and your baby is taking small amounts it really doesn't matter if you offer once, twice or ten times a day, just keep it relaxed and fun and never try and trick or pressure your baby into eating. My son started at 7 months and did not have to learn to eat and swallow he could do it from the first mouthful, my daughter who is now 7 months is not really interested in being spoon fed purees at all but she does like to self feed soft finger foods so we're going with that. The main thing is to keep it enjoyable. Fwiw solids have worsened reflux for is both times but I do know done say it helped their babies, probably it friends a but on the reflux trigger in the first place, I think ours have been linked to good sensitivities. Good luck and enjoy the ride. edited by kiwispiers on 21/05/2013

She is almost 6 months old and it was suggested due to reflux. We had been to see an allergist who said that the most recent research now indicates that solids can be introduced from 4 months onwards if the baby is ready. I'll just keep trying anyway and see if it improves. She seems to enjoy it so thats a plus :)

The longer you hold of weaning the better for the baby (I have a poor memory but I believe it avoids childhood obesity and allergies). I suggest holding out until 6 months old if possible.

If she's spitting most of it out, she still has the tongue thrust reflex which is an indication that she's developmentally ready for solids. How old is she? Can I ask why your doctor suggested starting solids early?
