Hi Ladies, I have looked into 4 hospitals: Medcare Hospital (the reason I didn't chose this one is because the OB who I absolutely love will be on holiday when I am due to deliver). American Hospital (I have heard from Mothers who delivered there that they are a little too quick to whisk you in for a C-section for the $$$). Also my insurance required Co-payment for this hospital. Al Zahra Hospital has excellent reviews and there is no reason for why I decided to not deliver there. In the end I chose to go with Dr Anne Philip at City Hospital, she makes me feel so relaxed and the maternity ward tour was great..answered all questions about anesthesia, routine during labour and birth, doctors, pediatricians, possible complications etc. I would recommend going on some maternity ward tours later down the line (between 18 and 26 weeks) and see which hospital you feel most comfortable with. City hospital holds a tour every Friday between 4:00pm and 5:00pm for the public. The prices can vary for maternity packages. If you are paying privately and are not covered by insurance I believe hospitals offer packages from around AED7K up to AED12K which will cover all of your scans and check ups along with the delivery its self....you will be able to find info from the Hospital websites and also if you give the Maternity wards a call. If you are covered by insurance, sometimes there is a cap on how much they are willing to cover and which Hospitals they will cover (elective C sections are generally not covered). You would need to check your policy and see what it covers to decide where you want to deliver and how you want to deliver...for example, my insurance covers all complications in pregnancy and birth and emergency c-section but does not cover epidural and if I wanted to deliver in American Hospital I would need to pay 20% of the final bill myself. Hope this helps :-)

I'm only about 5 weeks so very very early at the moment. I only know about 2 people out here that have had babies, but I don't want to mention anything to anyone yet as it's so early. Thank you for your advice ladies, I do really appreciate it :) Bean Sprout, I expect I will be asking you some questions a bit further down the line! X

Congrats! There are tons of threads in this forum recommending (or not recommending) various doctors and hospitals for pregnancy and delivery. May also want to ask others you've known who have had babies in Dubai recently for their thoughts and recommendations. No need to rush, though. Generally you won't be seen until at least 8 weeks. There's very little need for medical care in the first trimester. Just make sure you're taking a folic acid supplement or a prenatal vitamin to help prevent neural tube defects.

Hi NoodleT! Huge congratulations!!! I was in exactly the same position as you 20 weeks ago when i found out i was 5 weeks pregnant! Get yourself booked in to see an OB Gyne at a GP clinic or Hospital (I use GMC Clinic, Fetal Medicine Centre and City Hospital). I had all of my initial appointments at GMC clinic. The will do a blood test to see approximately how many weeks you are, your blood group, full blood count etc. Then they will ask you to go back at about 8 weeks for an internal scan to confirm the heartbeat (dont worry..this terrified me and wasnt at all bad). Then you will have regular check ups and scans at 12 weeks, 16 weeks, 20 weeks etc....they arent compulsory but if you are covered by insurance its nice to have a wee peep at your growing baby every month :-) Let me know if there is anything I can help you with x
