Hi everyone,

I have recently moved to Dubai with my teenage son to teach.

We have had some wonderful experiences since arriving. We need to now settle into a more realistic lifestyle to match our budget. So if anyone has some top tips for living in Dubai on a budget I'd love to hear them.

How does public transport work? Can I just hop on a bus or do we need a card (like London?)

Best value grocery shopping? Do they deliver?

Budget weekend restaurants, activities, sights to see?

(I'm living in sport city )

Many thanks!
Lou xx

Welcome, public transport is great if you live in the main parts of Dubai, however Sports City isn't geared up for public transport, apart from I understand an infrequent bus service and if you don't drive you could feel out on a limb. As others have said get the Entertainer books, the app is brilliant as you always have it on you. And hook up to Cobone etc for lots of offers. Sadly Dubai is getting more and more expensive and entertaining teens can get quite pricey, I've been here 8 years and every few months I feel I am getting less and less for our money, I shop mainly at Carrefour and if you can take advantage of their offers (washing powder, tinned goods, toiletries etc) then you can save quite a bit. Also get their loyalty card. Stay away from Waitrose and Spinneys as they just are way to expensive for everyday stuff.

You just scan it on bus or metro Groceries I shop in careffour and union co op as they are the cheapest and always have offers Geant and trolley.ae deliver but I don't know how big their choice is Buy the Entertainer family lots of Bogof deals on there plus groupon is always good for deals
