I love Christmas but I don't like it at all here in Dubai. All these "traditional" Christmas decorations just don't appeal to me. I hate looking at fireplaces and snowmen when it's +20 outside, I don't feel like I am connected to the holiday anymore. Why don't they use local ingredients for this holiday? Besides, it's summer in half of the world around this time of the year anyway. A Christmas camel and decorated palm trees and Christmas cards with the pictures of the sun and the sea would be so much more right! Also, they didn't have fur evergreens here 2000 years ago, so palm tree was the first Christmas tree anyway. Christmas here just makes me feel disconnected from the holiday whatsoever.

I hate Christmas too lol. Just don't do it. Calculate up how much money you'd be wasting on presents and cards and turkeys and flights and give it to a charity you believe in. Then if you feel the need, send an email out saying you gave donations this year in lieu of gifts. But don't let yourself be miserable over such a pitiful thing. Any of us who has the luxury of being able to sit here typing with food and a roof over our heads has no right to be pitying ourselves and our circumstances. Feeling down fine.. hating some parts of our life fine.. feeling estranged and far away from our families, fine. But those are all things very much in our power to change or at least address, compared to the millions of people whose passports and war-torn homelands provide them no such opportunity. We need to put our first world problems into perspective.

Scrap off what makes you hate Christmas, giving comes from the heart, and if its a bother, then its no longer a blessing to both the giver and the receiver. :-) :gift: What made you have this idea? Again as I said it's a me thread, can't you see the commercialised Christmas we are experiencing? The fact of being an expat lived in several countries, over the time friendships and all sort of ties get weaken, 5 years ago we used to expect family stay with us, now due to family members get really old - they can't fly- or the children get older and have life and summer jobs in the countries they are living in. What blessing of gifts you are talking about? Come back in 15 years of living as an expat and tell me about how many greeting cards you'll receive after that. Merry Christmas She was advising you to ditch the parts of Christmas that you no longer enjoy and to embrace the parts you do. No wonder you're so miserable at this time of year if you can't see the positive message she was proposing. Says the poster who replied at 2:30 am Keep talking about your miserable life please.

All of us are having the same struggle. Don't worry girls, we'll get used to it. Christmas is a season of joy so we need to be happy instead of thinking of the negative things. So smile everyone! :)

I am with you on this one and it makes me feel better that I'm not the only one feeling this way. Feel like I'm just going through the motions for the sake of others.

This year I just can't stand the celebration of Xmas! I used to like it and love it, now I just hate it. Just put on the happy face for the children sake but really I can't stand it anymore. Buying gifts and sending it to relatives that we don't see anymore, buying gifts to friends and teachers we don't really know, writting Xmas cards with nice wishes for people and never get a card in return. Is it only me or someone else's going through the same? I'm officially now a troll ? Merry Christmas everyone and wish you a happy new and safe new year. P.S I can't wait till I see the back of 2016 I hate 2016
