After 4 years of construction, the Dubai Frame should finally open before the end of 2017. The project was launched in 2013 but opening has been postponed from 2015 to what residents are hoping would be before the end of 2017.
“We have been delayed because we have some difficulties with the cladding and so we need to change it. It’s not only because of the new [the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code 2017] regulations, but we also want to give the frame a new look,” said Hussain Nasser Lootah from Arabian Business.

It has recently been reported that the Dubai Municipality is currently facing a copyright lawsuit. According to Fernando Donis, the international competition winner in 2008, he didn’t provide permission to the Dubai Municipality to use the design.
The assistant director-general for Engineering and Planning Sector at the Dubai Municipality, Dawood Al Hajri, told Gulf News that the legal dispute won’t affect the opening date of the Dubai Frame.
When asked whether the frame will open before Dubai’s National Day, Dawood responded that he could only confirm that it will be before the end of the year.
The project cost AED160 million to construct and is 150 metres high and 93 metres wide. There will be a museum about old Dubai on the ground floor. The museum will showcase how Dubai has evolved since the sixties.

From one side visitors will have a view of old Dubai seeing Al Karama, Umm Hurair, Bur Dubai and Deira and from the other side they will be able to see buildings such as the Burj Khalifa and Emirates Towers in the more modern Dubai. The attraction is expected to attract around 2 million visitors each year and become as popular destination as the Burj Khalifa.
In anticipation to the opening of the frame, residents have been having fun with the frame!
