There was definitely a lot of availability this morning, except for the smoked bacon which seems to be sold out. Despite the crowd, it was easy in, easy out. Incidentally, I went in with an expired permit, and they let me make a purchase "one time only", but also gave me the form to complete for renewal.

Choices, choices... finish an essay for an online University course or convince hubby we should go to the QDC.... (For some reason I think the essay will have to win out this time as it is due tomorrow!)

Thanks so much kerboo for sharing this info :) What time are they open? We were we could renew our permit online or fax can't remember - anyone know?? edited by ccdoha on 22/11/2011 If you have the application form you can fill it out, scan it and email to them with any attachments, they'll send you a return email once it's done. The email address is at the top of the form, hth. PS. There were a lot of people in line in front of my friend this morning so I would definitely go the email route!

Wow, that email from QDC makes them sound super-organised, I'm impressed. I'm even more impressed by the possibility of the Italian shipment <does little dance of joy and hopes the gardener doesn't see>

Just spoke to a friend who is out there now - she said the numbers of people there is laughable (cars lined up to get in at 10am) but that there seems to be plenty of stock and its not taking too long. :)

Received a forward of this email from someone who received it from QDC: Please note following:- 1) Access to QDC is still restricted to liquor permit holders. 2) We need the liquor permit to create an invoice. 3) No other permit is necessary. 4) The value of pork purchases is NOT deducted from your permit value. 5) There is no limit on how much you can purchase. 6) The current range is restricted to frozen smoked & unsmoked back & streaky bacon and 3 types of sausage (plain, Lincolnshire & Cumberland). 7) All packs (400gms for bacon & 454gms for sausages) are QR28 per pack. 8) Frozen items like chops, joints and belly pork will be here in about 1 month. 9) A chilled Italian range of Salami, Parma Ham etc is coming by air freight and should be here within 7-10 days. 10) We hope to get some chilled ham & gammon joints by air in time for Christmas, but we are still negotiating prices on this. Please note that we sold 10% of the first container in 4 hours yesterday, but don’t worry the 2nd container is arriving in the port today. We will be selling freezer bags from today, but I recommend you bring a cold box with you when shopping for pork. As you will discover we do not really have space for this new venture, so please bear with us if the crowd in the cold room is too much and the queues too long. I recommend you avoid Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays if you want to avoid the queues. Please note we will be building an extension to house this new product range, but this will take at least 6-8 months to complete. We are also planning a separate shop on The Pearl (next to the new liquor shop) but again this is at least 8 months away. The new liquor shop on The Pearl should open by end of January 2012.

OK how about a little more realistic and buy as much as you will eat once so that everyone can get a 'piece of the piggy' If someone can report the status it would be much appreciated...as in is there anything left, when is the next shipment, it's a long way from WB to QDC when I'd be happy with one pack of rashers for DH!

I didn't realise how much I cooked with bacon or pork products until I couldn't get them. Although I must say the beef pepperoni on a pizza is fabulous - you can barely tell the difference.

Well hopefully people will get over the frenzy mentality and learn to just buy what they might eat in a month (and lets face it - do you really need bacon every day??) and then we can all share in the "wealth"! :)

Hahaha - I did wonder if I ought not to let myself get siege mentality and buy the entire place out, but it looks like I'd be lucky to get much anyway! I wonder if they have managed to arrange a steady supply, or if we'll all get a little bit of our fix and then be plunged back into abstinence for the next 6 months?:(

Tries and shares... not in Qatar!! I had heard you would need a separate licence... I.e. another letter from employer. So this is not true?? Thankfully I have a freezer full from visitors, lets hope they will get another delivery soon!

Hoarders! :) I know one of my co-workers had posted on facebook that she was heading to the QDC to get some. I could really go for a certain type of sandwich, but we're expecting friends over and I don't feel like standing around for potentially hours just to get some. ~ Deb

You and half of Qatar! ;) Better arrange a pick up for the kids as you'll probably be there for hours! LOL! although from what I hear there might be nothing left - I've seen pictures on Facebook posted by people who went today and you'd think it was a once off purchase opportunity from the enormous amounts that they bought! Nothing quite like sharing the wealth and going for moderation heh! :)
