I am arriving in Abu Dhabi in June with my husband and 2 children (2 and 5 months)and my mother.

I will be working full time (8am-6pm on island) (Markaziyah?) and would prefer not to be spending time stuck in traffic on the way to and from work as my time with my children is already limited by my working hours. However, my husband has not secured work yet but it is likely he will have to commute to Dubai for work, so I have to consider his commute as part of the equation too.

We would like to live in a 4/5 bed villa without a pool (budget of c.200k - 250k AED), in an area which has local nurseries and footpaths and things going on during the day (art classes, book clubs etc.) for my Mum who does not drive.

Can anyone suggest good areas for us to look at given our criteria above, please?

Many thanks

With kind regards

Maria

Hi Maria74 - we live in a 4 bed villa in Al Maha Complex. It's a great location - just off the Old Airport Road, near Carrefour. Easy to get everywhere. the houses are very spacious and there are a lot of families here. The gardens are very small, however. There is a large INDOOR pool on the compound and a gym. Price is in your budget. Worth a look.

If you want footpaths etc, then try Raha Gardens. Not everyone's cup of tea, but sandwiched nicely between Al Yasmina and Raha International schools, and close to several other schools in KCA. Has parks and shops... Great for kids! It would mean a 25 minute commute for you to work, but would be much more convenient for your maid to drop the kids when the oldest starts school and easier for your DH if he has to work in Dubai.

Thanks Busybee2 My employer has confirmed I can definitely sponsor my husband and children. As for my mum, I am not so sure. She will come on a visit visa to start off with, then, if she wants to stay longer, we will look into whether I can apply for an annual residency visa for her, but as you say I think that may be restricted to certain professions. I am a lawyer but I am not being employed as a lawyer in UAE. That said, I will be providing legal services so I think I will ask my new employer about the possibility of employing me as a lawyer. I had been looking at Khalidiya Village so your recommendation gives me assurance that it has what we are looking for. It is sometimes hard to know if you have got your bearings right when looking at the maps and various neighbourhoods on the internet. If Khalidiya Village is the right location, we will just have to stretch the budget! With kind regards Maria to sponsor parents it costs more you have a 5k charge each year and you have to provide health insurance, so that may well cost you a lot if there are prexisting conditions, also there are rules about the age limits too.

Many thanks With kind regards Maria what is your profession, you have checked that you can sponsor your husband and your mother? if you are going to be on island then look at khaydia village, it has a pool, and is within walking distance of khaylida mall and other shops, and buses etc, but you wont be walking that much in the hotter months. khayldia is not too far to your work but it will be 30 mins or so to get off the island to then commute up to dxb and depending on where that is could be another hour on top. but k village will be top of your budget, if you want to go for an apartment it will be nearer the 200 mark. edited by busybee2 on 16/04/2013
