Thank you all for your replies. I looked at the Australian school but realised after looking into it that it did not have anything to do with Australia. I agree completely with busybee2s reply. So far have put in applications for BISAD and Al Yasmina will wait to hear back. I think the 1st year will be a learning curve as far as living and schooling go. We are looking at Raha Beach to live either in an apartment or townhouse. From blogs I have read it is about a 20 minute drive to BISAD.Looking for an area with things to do during day and restaurants in evenings. Any other suggestions will be very much appreciated

Just for info - not sure what it's like but there is also an Australian School in Khalifa B. http://aia.vic.edu.au/abu_dhabi/about-us when this school opened a lot of the ozzie kids moved over to it and then moved back to other schools, this school is an islamic one, its separated boys/girls. edited by busybee2 on 05/04/2013

BSAK is completely full and not taking waiting lists :( it was our first choice as refered to by my husbands company but not to be. Are the areas you suggested mbz/kcb/kca nice and close to a beach ? I have always lived by the sea and not keen on living inland. I will look at Repton on Reem Island, but not sure how far a commute that would be for my husband.I heard back from Brighton today but looks quite posh ?!? ;) so far I have applied to Al Yasmina and Bisad. Will decide on a third one tomorrow. All of the paperwork is very time consuming ! So hard to know areas / schools when you are not in country. Info re quinns is excellent I will look into it. Thank you. bsak : i did think as much, but you have to ask.... mbz/kcb are like 15 mins away from the beach, kca is closer. but beaches here are expensive, they are not free. brighton college is an independent british school, and so you have to do an entrance exam. its in its second year so it is fairly new to everything. repton is a similar sort of setup when it opens in september, there is one in dubai, but again repton is an independent school and so will be an entrance test. these 2 schools are different from the others as they do "test" the children to get into the school etc. brighton college you also need deep pockets and repton will be no different. and yes they would be referred to as posh in the uk as they are private schools etc. bsak is a non profit school so is run by its governors which does make it different from other schools. bisad is in mbz/kcc area so is very close. yasmina is in kca. the new cambridge international school is in baniyas across the road from kcb. if you like rugby you can go to harlequinns or the new saracens too although honestly bsak teams are very highly regarded. you will probably have more luck with the older child and usually once you get one in you move up the list considerably. edited by busybee2 on 02/04/2013

Brighton College is a fantastic school, and only in it's second year of opening. I have really sporty boys (My 10 year old is particularly into Rugby), and they really benefit from the sporting offering at Brighton, as well as the academic and the music and drama. It maybe hard to get both children in, but really worth a go!

Hi , we are an Australian family moving to AD in August 2013, my husband will be arriving in May. Just looking for information re schooling for my 5 year old girl and 10 year old boy. I have submitted an application for Al Yasmina, tonight will be doing 1 for BISAD and maybe Brighton and Raha Int. I already know I am going to have problems getting my 5 year old in. Any feedback on the schools I have mentioned would be greatly appreciated. I am thoroughly confused at the moment and finding the whole school situation rather daunting. I have read some bad things regarding Raha Int which has put me off. Very worried about bullying and lack of discipline in the schools. Also looking at the new Cambridge school. My son is very sporty and loves Rugby so also looking for a school he will enjoy. Looking forward to hearing from other mums . Was looking at living near Corniche but now schooling may dictate the area! :) Thanks i think that you need to look at the british schools, for the sports etc. have you applied for bsak, but i am 99.9% sure that for the 5 year old you will not get in, and there will be a big waiting list but you must talk to karen the registrar to get the most uptodate information, as things are fluid here. look at any of the aldar schools. bisad is off the island and if you were living on the corniche it would be a long drive. i would really look at mbz/kcb/kca as they are more communtable. have you looked at repton which is a new school opening on reem island, and yes the new cambridge international school in baniyas. the only issue you have with new schools is the extra curricular activites can take a year or so to materialise. if you are into rugby then you can join the quinns each week so that would sort that issue out. i know people that moved from yasmina and having a 5 min drive to school to bsak having a 20 min drive to school, because of the extra curricluar and sports etc.
