Some of Dubai's roads have been subject to a very bold makeover recently as part of a plan to improve road safety across the Emirate.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have started painting parts of roads red that have a change in speed limits, to help make them more obvious to road users.

Areas that have this brand new pop of colour so far include Oud Metha Street (near the Bu Kadrah interchange), along the extension of the Dubai - Al Ain street where the limit drops from 100 km/h to 80 km/h.

This eye-catching style is no doubt prominent, with the RTA hoping that the step will help invite the attention of drivers when a change in speed limit is applied.

So far, it's only been introduced in few areas, however the RTA plan to implement it in phases at different and vital locations across Dubai that are subject to a change in speed; including, Sheikh Zayed Road near the fifth interchange, and the Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road near Lehbab where speed limits for both are reduced from 120 km/h to 100 km/h.

The new design comes as part of the RTA's vision of 'Safe and Smooth Transport for All', and falls in line with its policy and findings of the Traffic Safety Strategy for zero fatalities in road accidents in the Emirate.
