Yes the rumours are true! It’s been confirmed by the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) that the parking rates are set to increase on May 28, 2016.

The RTA has announced that approximately 30,000 public parking spaces across to Dubai will increase the hourly rate to AED 4 instead of the current AED 2 on May 28, 2016.
In addition to this, the mid-day parking break from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm is said to be removed across all car parks in Dubai, making the full day from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm applicable for parking rates.
The new pricing structure will affect Dubai’s commercial areas that take up about 23% of the RTA side-of-the-street parking spaces.
The new fees are as follows:
AED 2 | 30 Minutes |
AED 4 | 1 hour |
AED 8 | 2 hours |
AED 12 | 3 hours |
AED 16 | 4 hours |
Today, parking fees are just AED 2 per hour, which means that the parking rates are expected to double that of the current pricing in the affected areas.

Therefore, parking full day in some parts of the city can soon cost up to AED 56, instead of the previous AED 20, which included the mid-day break period from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm (which will be omitted by the end of the month).
The 30,000 parking spaces that will be affected by the price increase will be identified as ‘Category 1’.
The remaining public spaces, which take up approximately 73% of the RTA’s public parking spots will remain at AED 2 per hour, AED 5 for two hours, 8 AED for three hours and AED 11 for four hours, and will be identified as ‘Category 2’.
Parking codes across Dubai are currently being rearranged in an effort to restructure the city’s parking system, in accordance with the parking fees announcement that was made by the RTA in April.

No information has been given regarding which areas will fall under ‘Category one’ and which will fall under ‘Category two’, although it is rumoured that areas such as Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), Bur Dubai, Deira, Dubai World Trade Centre, Tecom, Dubai Media City and Downtown Dubai are likely to fall under the ‘Category 1’ umbrella, charging AED 4 per hour.
The restructure of the parking codes is expected to be completed by the end of the month, just in time for the new rates to take place.
