Renew Your Vehicle Registration in Dubai Without Paying Fines

Have fines to pay? Now you can enjoy discounts on traffic fines - here's how.

Under a new initiative launched by Dubai Police earlier this year, drivers in Dubai can enjoy discounts on their total fines if they do not commit another traffic offense in a certain period of time.

The traffic fine discount initiative, which began on February 6, allows users to enjoy discounts on their fines; 25 percent off if they don't get another fine in 3 months, 50 percent off for 6 months of clean driving, 75 percent off for 9 months and a full 100 percent discount if you don't commit a traffic offence for 12 months.

Of course, the initiative - launched in the Year of Tolerance - has been welcomed by Dubai drivers, but some were left confused as to the logistics of the scheme... How can you enjoy a 100 percent discount on fines after 12 months if, for example, your car registration was due in 6 months?

Which is why Dubai Police have teamed up with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to waive fine payments for vehicle registrations.

Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Chief of Dubai Police, said: "We have coordinated with the Roads and Transport Authority to allow individuals to renew their vehicle's registration automatically regardless of accumulated fines or any periods of confiscation imposed on vehicles, or offences committed. We want the public to benefit from the discount initiative."

Previously, drivers wishing to renew their vehicle registration in Dubai were required to pay all fines pending.

"Individuals can go to registration centres and decide whether or not to pay traffic fines immediately. Individuals can choose the amount of fines they want to clear. However, if they don’t commit a traffic offence, they don’t have to pay anything till February 2020," Al Merri added.

Since launching, Dubai Police has confirmed that a total of 457,154 drivers have benefited from the 25 percent discount on their traffic fines - with a further 1,260,047 traffic offences being waived. The initiative has also led to a 19 percent reduction in vehicles being impounded over traffic offences.

Drivers from other emirates, or those who have other RTA fines - like parking and Salik fines - need to clear them when they renew vehicle registration. The discount will apply to the seizure of vehicles and traffic points too.

How the fines discount initiative works in Dubai

  • Drivers who don't commit a traffic violation for three months can get a 25 percent on their current fines
  • Drivers who don't commit a traffic violation for six months can get a 50 percent on their current fines
  • Drivers who don't commit a traffic violation for nine months can get a 75 percent on their current fines
  • Drivers who don't commit a traffic violation for twelve months can get a 100 percent on their current fines

How to pay for your traffic fines in Dubai

If you wish to pay your fines online, simply head to the RTA's website to pay your Dubai traffic fines here. You will need your traffic file number (can be found on your vehicle licence), the date of birth of the licence holder for the vehicle and a valid GCC credit or debit card.

If you have black points or another issue that requires you to pay your fines in person, simply head to the nearest customer center location to you.
