Hello,

I was totally shocked this morning when I read this news on the Zawya plattform

First I thought it has to do with employees who work for the AD government, but unfortunately not !!
I forwarded it to my hubby to check with the company PRO (which is not really helpful and a bit lazy) and he said, that is correct.
If you want to renew visa for your family and maid, you need to show a contract which shows you live in AD !!!
I assume there are a few more people on the forum which live in Dubai and their hubby work in AD like in our case. We can not move to AD and also don't want. The kids go here to school, I work here, ...we just renew our contract here..
strangely the PRO meant this rule only applies to families not to bachelors???
Has anyone been in this situation lately (in the last 4 weeks, as it was implemented in the last 4 weeks)
I haven't read anything about it yet in Gulf News, but might have missed it -

I would very much appreciate any more information about it as it really gives me a big headache and worries.

On another note: If that is really the case, will I be possible to sponsor our kids and maid. I do not have one of the proffesion I should have, like teacher,.. I work as BD Manager but my salary will be fine .

If someone have any more information or have a better PRO in their AD company to ask, I would very much appreciate if you could share it with me.

When people say 'attested by the municipality', do they just mean Ejari? Yes. In Dubai at least, attesting your tenancy contract just means registering it with Ejari.

Our Dubai tenancy contract is not attested and never has been. I guess we just get lucky. ooooh think you are very very very very lucky..... big probs now because of this...... When people say 'attested by the municipality', do they just mean Ejari? If so, it's a fairly recent concept (in terms of actual enforcement anyway), so I'm not surprised people haven't been caught out by it yet. It will certainly be a major issue for the future though. it has been in the pipeline for a little while in auh, but as usual they have now made it compulsory so its coming, if you got away with it this time, all contracts need to be done, so i would do it before the time to renew, all new contracts should be done automatically on renewal etc "should be" is the word tho. once its done you dont need to worry again. each "new" contract requires it.

Ok now i'm pretty confused - sorry if I'm being really stupid, but does this just apply to government companies or also private companies? Husband and kids are on AD visa but we live (and work) in Dubai. Husband is on AD visa for various reasons I can't go into here, but he's based in Dubai although travels 2/3 weeks out of every month to Saudi/Qatar etc. (I'm on my own Dubai visa as another problem i had was I couldn't work for my employer on a spouse visa issued in another emirate! so my employer had to sponsor me instead). Our house is covered by the company, but the tenancy contract is in husbands name and is obviously a Dubai tenancy contract. Kids visas are up in August (husbands was renewed in may). Will we have problems even though he works for a private company? Seems to be so much going on/flying around at the moment, I heard it on the radio this morning, noone seems to really know? Spoke to my husband and he says not to worry about it that its his companys problem and his PRO will sort it one way or another! Hopefully if push comes to shove they'll have to just give him/kids Dubai visas instead and deal with the issues that causes with him not being ADvisad! (I hope....!) edited by itsonlyme on 25/06/2013 r you travelling in the summer? as far as i know that our pro says is that if a dubai tenancy as long as its attested at dubai municipality etc that in the past that has been fine, but they definately have just changed the rules. we have taken over a month to the get the ad tenancy contract attested as there was some sort of mistake with the property management ie the bank, its 3rd year renewal nothing dodgy landlord is brilliant and its a proper villa etc no split/subletting etc, and we pay the bills so there was absolutely nothing to go wrong but i think it must have been something on their plans, but it took an age to sort out so much so that it affected a critical medical appointment, but without visa no doctor etc here. new rules for dependants visas, renewed child in march all that was extra was required sponsors id card, now you need tenancy agreement attested etc. ramadan is middle of july so that could hold up any visa renewals anyways especially ad visas. i am sorry that i would be worried about it, yes its a company problem, but if it affects other things, as it did with us, the company did their best as well as me going into hussle things along, they will take as long as it takes....... i wouldnt want to put in my passport if i knew that i would need it for travelling soon.

DH renewed our maid's visa last week in AD with no problems. This is our third year with her and we've only lived with her in Dubai while DH works in AD. He said there were no issues and they didn't ask him about living in AD.

the rules are defo changed since last month, renewed a childs visa back in march, only thing new then was needed original sponsors id card, renewed mine and my other boys visa started in may, its taken well over a month to sort it out..... this is a ad visa with an ad tenancy agreement, all proper but the property management which is ADIB needed to get the tenancy agreement attested by ad municipality so you need to provide an electric bill, that was all given to them back in may, but its taken until today to get it sorted.. some sort of problem with the tenancy contract, a mistake on the banks/property company which delayed things...... like 1 month.... ad municipality are swamped because the new rules are now compulsory... so i wouldnt hang around.. i did think giving them over 1 month to start and finish would be enough, but i was wrong. delayed hospital appointments too because of it. in kca the majority of houses are villas, arch isnt quite right, there is 1 major apartment complex, the rest are all split type villas, and these are the type of housing that they are trying to get rid of.... you have to have the electric in your name, and not be in a split villa or in local housing etc. when a contract has been drawn up then the contract should be registered, ours was drawn up on 3rd renewal back in november, did the bank etc do this, nope cause they didnt have to, now they had to do it because its necessary.....!!! also hearing that you cannot get a maids visa if no children...! there are ways around things if you can provide evidence etc.

It seems to be for "family" and maid visas, so yes, it may not affect bachelors as theirs is based on employment. But if a man is sponsoring his family, he will need a AUH tenancy contract by the looks of it If you search for housing in Abu Dhabi though, a lot of the properties under 90k is housing that will not get you an "attested" contract, which is the main requirement. Merely living in an AUH apt is not enough, you need the Tawtheeq attestation, which you can not get in many properties because they are not listed with the municipality. The whole of Khalifa city, for e.g., does not have a single 2 bed independent unit, every 2 bed apt advertised is in a villa, and agents will claim its all ok, but often they are not. Govt employees with (often) above avg housing allowances can get places but those working in AUH on all inclusive average packages may find it a bit difficult to find appropriate housing

Can anyone confirm this, I have had mixed responses about the rule change, some says it still only applies to government others say that it will only be for new visas not renewals. We are currently in the same situation, after a long and nerve wrecking search for schools our daughter is finally stating school in Dubai September so do not hope that this is the case.

My husband has a member of staff who had the same issue just the other week. They managed to get around it by changing the cost centre his time is charged to from an Abu Dhabi one to a Dubai based one (his company work over all emirates which made this possible) but they also had to present a case asking for dispensation to the CID. Only after this was approved did he get his visa renewed. So there are ways round it, but I guess it doesn't help if your PRO isn't up to much.
