Bear in mind that it's actually really cold here at the moment..... can't imagine going anywhere without a jumper and socks on (but i am a complete weather wuss) LOL Somehow I am thinking that your "cold" is not neccessarily the same as our "cold". :-P But seriously, thanks. I will make sure he takes a jacket.

Beautiful, thanks ladies. We are from Brisbane, Australia, though originally Sydney (Brissie is another degree of casual from Sydney, LOL). All of that sounds fine. Just didn't want him to offend anyone. Believe me, he is NOT the tank top type, LOL. Polo shirts will be perfect :-D. OK, gotta go, we are about to be hit by another storm here so I have to get the electricals off.

Mind you it's been cool, cloudy and a bit rainy here lately. If they are going anywhere indoors, like malls, hotels or restaurants, they will need parkas because in this region, as well as in SE Asia, they like to blast the A/C to freezing temps all year round. As Claire said. Where are you from? I would suggest what you would wear in a business / casual business setting. Many men wear a shirt and tie for work, but some wear golf shirts or Polo type shirts, depending on the job.

DH is heading to Dubai in the next few days to meet, greet and have an orientation visit. He will be there over the weekend so will have the chance to get out of office attire and look around. We are pretty casual folk during our down-time, but are aware of the cultural requirements and want to make sure we respect those. What do non-Emirati men get around in over there on the weekends in shopping malls etc? Do they wear long pants, enclosed shoes, long sleeved shirts? or Can you get away with long shorts, collared shirts and casual shoes? Any help would be much appreciated. Long shorts, t shirts, polo shirts, flip flops, crocs, havianas etc are all acceptable clothing. If he is meeting work people for dinner then longer trousers and casual shirt would be in order depending on where they are going but if he's meeting at a bar like barest which is on the beach then shorts and tanker are absolutely fine. It's very casual here really but very short shorts and vest type tops are not acceptable unless in the gym, on the beach or running the marathon! edited by Clairehdp on 20/01/2011
