Al Maktoum International Airport -- what's it like?

I usually fly Etihad out of Abu Dabs, but am doing a last-minute type flight out of Doobers tonight and will be leaving from DWC/Al Mak Int.

I have been searching for info about the airport online but most of it pertains to what it WILL look like when completed, rather than how it operates currently. I did find their website (bit Spartan!) but no info vis-a-vis what one does before boarding etc. Eg. Are there lounges -- apart from the Marhaba deal?

If anyone can help ... that'd be great. TIA.

Love this airport - we use it often to go to Doha. No queues and stress free.

we dropped our guests for a week day evening flight 2 weeks ago and that was the only flight leaving at that time! airport was very empty. departure area parking is not paid yet! and lots of empty slots. the only minus point ..the un-ending slow speed road to the airport. other than that great airport to fly out of if you are tired of queues at DXB international. Haha we thought we were going to end up in the desert, round and round, it was like a long windy queue for the rides at Alton Towers

Thank you, everyone! All sounds ... doable. Guess I'll be perching myself on a hard chair near the gate then? Ha ha ... HATE that I have to be there two hours before fly-time because I'm on an international flight, but hey-ho. No dramas. *Steels resolve* :D

We flew to Sofia in 2014 and were the only people there :-)

It's an absolute breeeeeeze! SO easy, SO empty and SO quiet!! If you're not fussed for duty free shopping and 5* food, then I definitely recommend flying from here. My husband and I flew back last Christmas on 17th December 2015... The airport was empty besides a few passengers on our flight.

Hi there, I fly out of DWC all the time and I love it. It is pretty bare bones right now, although they recently opened the Starbucks! There is a small food court upstairs with a mcdonalds and a costa and I think one or two other places. There is a small duty free, nothing great but has a tiny book section that isn't too bad. I've never been in the lounges as I never get there with enough time to hang around much. I prefer to fly out of here because there is never any line ups. and I mean none! Last week when I flew out, I checked in and was through security in 10 minutes. When I returned I went from the plane to a cab in about 12 minutes. But sshhh keep it on the DL I love that this airport is so empty right now! lol hope that helps :)
