just wanted some opinions cos i feel a right mug - what do u think of the following scenario?

receptionist: that will be 9 dhs
me: ok, that is with direct billing, yes?
doc: oh, youhave direct billing?? Oh (tells recptionist) that will be a full consultation then
Receptionist: oh ma'am that is no 21 dhs instead
me: why???
doc : i thoought you were paying yourself so i charged less but now i know you have direct billing i will charge the full amount - only 12 dhs more - that is ok yes.
me: oh??
recpetionist :there you go ma'am - (new bill)
me: oh ok then

i am a bit p&ssed i didnt stand up for myself - i was kinda hinting that i preferred the smaller charge and why did they need to change it but ended up being bullied i suppose.
i know it is not alot of money but still feel odd about it even now.

am i being silly??

Umm I don't think so..... One set of fees for cash patients and one set of fees for direct billing only seems fair to me I agree, but just wish that businesses would make it known before it's time to pay. It should be policy, not on-the-spot decisions. At the end of the day, you want your customer/clients to be happy...and communicating your payment policies are as important as service and quality of products.

I think it's annoying that they didn't inform you before or have a very obvious sign posted of the difference in charges. I know it's popular practice to offer discounts to people paying in cash or upfront (vs. direct billing or installments) as an incentive. Direct billing is easy for the client, but that means paperwork and follow up with insurance to get paid (which can't be fun on their end either).
