We have lived here for two years now and have never been to Bab Al Shams, I know its under new management now but I am just wondering if its worth visiting and staying for the weekend.
My DH got promoted at work and I want to take him away for few days and Bab Al Shams was my first thought.
Anyone stayed there recently?
TIA

The hotel and setting is gorgeous, love the sunset........have tried both the Italian restaurant and the Al Forsan brunch, both restaurants were very disappointing in quality which is a shame - could not recommend either...........when we went for brunch dishes very slow to be replenished, food quality just poor for the price and a disorganized layout...........though have also heard positive reviews about the Indian restaurant.

Hi Champagnelover - hope you have a lovely time at Bab Al Shams. Just a tip about getting there early on Friday as last time we went we had a load of problems with it. Last time we went, we weren't allowed to check in to our room until about 4pm although we arrived at about 1pm (their t&cs say 3pm check-in, which we hadn't noticed when we booked (our fault), and on top of that they were late with our room) - so if you are planning on getting there early I would recommend either getting a guaranteed & confirmed early check-in, or otherwise making sure you are already in your swimwear / whatever for sitting poolside, with a small bag with what you need in so that you can leave the rest of your stuff with reception until you can check in. We ended up having to change into our swimwear in the toilets by the pool (there were no poolside changing rooms) = not a great start to a romantic weekend! The indian restaurant there (Masala) is nice too. Have fun.

It is not a Jumeirah Group Hotel anymore, it now belongs to the Meydan Group. We were there the second time with Christmas 2010 and the first time 3 years ago. The first time was lovely, very good service, nice details in the rooms and the dinner with entertainment in the open air restaurant Al Hadheerah Desert was great. The second time was not good at all, and we think it was because they where between management. The entertainers in the restaurant where spending more time having taking photo's taken with the guests, which you can buy later, than being on stage. Service in the main hotel was really bad and I had not the feeling that we were in a 5 star hotel at all. We might have been unlucky.

Been there a week ago for a couple of days with our 20th anniversary, it's a great resort!!!! The staff go through a lot of trouble to spoil you if they know you celebrate a special event. When we came back from dinner our floor and bed was covered with red rose petals, they even run us a bath with rose petals floating in it. Brought me a lovely flowers arrangement and baked us a cake. Enjoy!!!!!!

Bab Al Shams is a wonderful place to visit, very relaxing and pampering. Management remained in the hands of Jumeirah with a new incoming GM (the "old" one now being GM of Meydan).

TIA OMG... my husband came home one week on a tuesday... told me to in a very tired voice he had a meeting far away in bab al shams that he needed me to translate from french to arabic and english, so i grabbed my bag and laptop and away we went. when we arrived it being my first time there... he lead me around the winding coradors... into a door... the SPA... massage time... wow... after i finished the staff led me past the pool to the upstairs outdoor shisha bar... we had some drinks... he led me down to the restuant which was amazing... everything outdoor... fresh... simply wonderful... the show started... and it was so entertaining the egyptian male dancer even took me up on stage (being as i look very Canadian) i broke out belly dancing... everyone clapped my hubby recorded... soo much food and soo much fun... than retired back to our room... the most romantic thing i think.. he took work off for no reason and nothing special... and it was really great... i highly recommend going it will be for sure an experience you will always remember...

Spending a weekend at Bab al-shams is lovely. If you enjoy the spa or chilling out in the sun or the pool with a view of the desert...it is very relaxing and nice. There are several restaurants and bars too..and if you plan ahead they also have other activities that you can do if you are not just interested in lying around. Its a perfect place to relax and unwind as a couple. Congrats on your DH's promotion and enjoy! edited by carpediem on 22/03/2011

We've been there in Dec after 6 years in Dxb. I can definitely recommend it. Expensive but very nice. Go to the outdoor restaurant (forget it's name now) - very nice atmosphere. Enjoy!
