Spot on Izzy 99 - the route of the problem needs addressing. However shocking these reports and this film footage is, as Jon Snow said, the Government does not want this message airing, so by keeping the story alive the pressure will slowly mount and hopefully (eventually) result in positive action. In the meantime, there are several organisations other than the one mentioned working to improve conditions, and people like the Dr shown who are trying to make a difference.

What I don't understand is all the charities that feed laborers. Laborers aren't charity cases - they are employees. The companies should be feeding them adequately and providing them with the things they need to live here. Charities are subsidizing the companies they work for. In that BBC news clip, the labourers being interviewed had stopped working for the company after six months of not being paid, and were living rough, and no longer, presumably, technically employees but 'absconded'. Their passports were still held by the company and they couldn't afford a ticket home - but they had clearly decided they weren't going to continue working in fairly brutal conditions for no salary. That, I assume, is why that Indian doctor had organised a feeding rota.

The companies should be feeding them adequately and providing them with the things they need to live here. Charities are subsidizing the companies they work for. Do you not think that the problem lies with the fact that many of the labourers are so indebted to the recruitment companies that their salaries go straight back there? Dont get me wrong - i do believe that the construction workers are woefully underpaid but you also need to take into account that they are unskilled and uneducated workers who are earning a lot more than they could possibly earn in rural India / Bangladesh. I seriously believe that the Governments in those countries need to crack down on the recruitment companies (that are little more than human traffickers) and also the construction companies here need to employ their own recruitment specialist. The labour camps are woeful but you also need to take into account that many of the labourers have no knowledge of how these amenities work. (was working in a Saudi hosp and some of the Bedouin patients there didn't know how to use the loo - just because they hadn't before). I think the law should require companies that hire laborers to provide them with adequate food and toiletries.

I don't know why so many people get their knickers in a knot over the SATC2 movie. Its just a fun, light hearted movie!!! Who cares how they portrayed certain aspects of the movie. ITS A MOVIE!!!

I doubt it was from the UAE........ did you see the movie? Couldn't have been more anti UAE if it had tried.... It was loosly portrayed as Abu Dhabi, but was filmed in Morocco as UAE refused them permission to film there.

It makes me cross when i think of the film *** in the City 2 and how the hotel worker there stated he went home every 3 months to see his wife and Carrie thought this awful!!! Ha more like every 3 years, put that in your film Hollywood. Exactly... I wonder how much they were paid to put in a bit about how well workers were treated. Just reinforces the fact that SitC is a load of tosh. I doubt it was from the UAE........ did you see the movie? Couldn't have been more anti UAE if it had tried....
