Are any of you in the know about building/foundations/construction?
There's a building site almost opposite our house, and the 'boring' phase has been going on for weeks and weeks; they start around 7am for several hours, do other stuff during the day, then start boring again for a few hours just as we sit down to relax in the evening. It's not so much of a noise as a feeling, the whole house is literally vibrating, glasses rattling in the cupboard, pictures rattling on the wall, Windows rattling in their frames...the first morning it started (whilst I was asleep still), I thought I was sleeping in a car because the movement and vibrations are so strong.

We've endured more than a decade in this house surrounded by construction of roads, houses, a mall, another mall, and a third mall, but this time is unbearable and we're slowly being driven insane

Anybody know how long it's likely to go on for? I'm having vivid fantasies about sneaking into the site at night and cutting the fuel lines and hydraulics (just kidding, honest )

I think the timings are within legal/allowable limits, and our house is a Government of Dubai one so I guess it's in my landlord's best interest that Dubai is booming and building ;) We can't stop the building, and delaying it is pointless, it IS going to keep being built...I just wanted an insiders guess at how long we'll be tortured with the boring for! Thanks for your concern though bingo bye: Bad news is that up the street in the opposite direction to the current building site a new patch of derelict land has just been cordoned off and it looks like the 'info board' is being erected as we speak  I really hope they're both new malls, we just don't have enough

II really sound too dreadful! There are supposed to time restrictions when this noisy work can be done - do you know what they are? (Sorry I don't but in larger development like those of Emaar the work does not go on after a certain time or start earlier than a certain time). Can you not speak to someone on the site - or ask who you can speak to about the noise and shaking? Do you have landlord - perhaps the owner should know because the work may be damaging his property if it is being shaken?! If you are really interested in the stages of constructions - there are several good books on amazon.co.uk about how to build a house.
