My DS turns 4 at the end of August and as such that makes him eligible to start at school FS2/Reception. I have concerns about him being the youngest in his class and not being able to keep up emotionally and mentally with his peers. His nursery school teacher says he is fine to go ahead onto BIG school.

Have any of you held your children back or would hold your child back?

I am really unsure as to what to do!

thats understandable......maybe talk to the school, I have heard some schools allowing a delay when the child is on the cut off. Do the have an FS1, would they let you put him into FS1 rather than FS2 By the by, in Outliers Malcom whatever his name is, discusses the advantages of being on the older side in the class....

I have a child already in DESS and would like them to be in the same school, I can't be taking them to different schools in the morning.

Only you can decide. I have two Summer boys, one I held back and the other I didn't. It very much depends on the child and how developed they are. Listen to your child's teacher and then decide for yourself. I didn't do it here initially though - I don't know what the rules are at KHDA for this but my eldest will be graduating at almost nineteen and his youngest brother at amost 18.
