Hi ladies, I have had breast pain for the last few days, but my one breast is swollen, hot to the touch and hard! What dr do I need to see. And any recommendations? Thanks

It sounds like mastitis - incredibly painful - mostly affected by hormones - pregnancy - weight gain and wearing the wrong size bra - try wearing a sports bra for a while but get fitted first http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A4455272 or copy and paste the link as a good guide but ask someone else to measure you evening primrose will help - avoid alcohol, caffine and get to a doc to have it checked out didnt read the doc bit - glad you went though ;) edited by bowbellscowbells on 12/04/2011

Couldn't get an app with Dr Reyes till end of the week-So went to a GP, she says she couldn't feel any lumps so put me on Evening Primrose Oil for now and I must just monitor. If anything changes i'll need to do a ultrasound. Glad I went though! Thanks ladies.

I really hate going to the doctor's too. Seriously. But sometimes it has to be done, if for no other reason than to put your mind at rest. At the risk of sounding like a Nike ad, just do it. Please let us know how you get on! xx edited by BFC on 09/04/2011

Was just talking to DH. He also thinks I should go even though I feel ok today. Will call tomorrow morning. **eek** I hate doctors.

Sunshine, it's really important that you go to the doc even if the pain has gone away! Pain is usually not serious but will need treatment looking at anyway. Please don't leave it! Good luck!

Decided not to call today-not painful today, haven't worn a br@ today so that could have helped?? Not breast feeding so not sure what it was. Will see how I feel over the next few days-if it comes back I'm going straight to the dr. Thanks for the info BFC, will do a little reading up on it. Swils: I hope the dr went ok this morning.

Did you see a doctor this morning? Sounds as if it could be mastitis (= non-specific word for "breast inflammation") - can be non-infective or infective, but the non-infective typically develops into infective and although it is not serious, it is important that it be treated - usually with antibiotics - to avoid an abscess forming. It is not uncommon in lactating women (are you breastfeeding?), but can occur in non-lactating women. It's very important to get it checked out so that you can get prompt treatment and also rule out anything untoward. Hope you got it sorted and you're feeling better. xx

Don't put off getting to a doctor. At City Hospital there is a Dr Reyes - breast specialist/surgeon, who I have seen. I believe he is South African. http://www.ehl.ae/thecityhospital/FindaPhysician.aspx?dname=&hid=1&dpid=88 Dr. Horiya Kazem of Well Woman is also a breast specialist. http://www.wellwomanclinic.ae/team_kazim.html

Just see a doc or go to hospital and get it checked. I can give you a number for DLC but you may not get a quick appt. I'm off to City Hospital tomorrow with a week old injury maybe I can meet you there! Just get it checked may well be nothing but you are clearly worried so just go.

If it was me I would go first and see a GP at Dubai London Clinic - and just guage what could be happening. They would then refer you to the right person. Equally if you are very worried just got to A&E at the hospital and get a few answers.
