Best way forward is to donate it to a cleaner or gardener etc. Or give away to friends. Why go through the hassle of declaring and then having everything checked? Check the food import laws of where you are landing. Some countries (aus and nz) are quite strict about them.

You have to declare food items on arrival in some countries such as Australia, which is very strict, on a form. Don't forget to do that - depending where you're going.

We're leaving Dubai unexpectedly and I have unopened and sealed store-cupboard items - coffee, sugar, sauces, ketchup, fabric conditioner and the like. We're not allowed to put food in our shipping container - does anyone know if I can carry them on the plane in my suitcase. All my clothes etc are being shipped separately so my suitcase has plenty of room. I'm assuming yes because family often bring me food items from abroad but I'm wondering if anyone's taken back half of Spinney's in their luggage. Oh gosh, don't know your situation, but ketchup and sugar in the luggage...maybe just donate it to a maid or laborer...

As long as you check it in and don't try to take liquids as hand baggage it's fine.
