Thanks ladies. I am planning to use the licence in Germany and the UK. You don't need an International permit for the UK, because your UAE license is also written in English, that's accepted and they will ask for that over the International permit. You do need the International permit for Germany though.

Depends where you go in Europe. Germany and Bulgaria do NOT accept the UAE license, so you need the International permit for those countries.

I have not bothered with an international licence for the past 10 years. We have rented cars in UK, USA, France, Italy, Portugal etc with our UAE licence with no issue. As it is in English it is accepted. I wouldn't bother...

We've recently hired cars in Italy, Cyprus and Uk using our UAE licence with no problems. Never bothered with international permit as UAE licence is written in English as well as Arabic. Check the hire companies T/C if they just require a licence written in English then UAE licence should surfice.

Thank you very much for the replies. That's right. I have obtained my driving licence in the UAE years ago and I would like to drive on my next trip to Europe so I would need to issue an international permit. Many thanks once again. I will make sure to pop by Tasjeel in Barsha to get the permit issued.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the internatonal driver's license is in addition to your UAE one and doesn't replace it? Correct. It doesn't replace your UAE license. It's for use in countries that don't accept the UAE license but will accept the international permit. It's also only valid for 12 months.

Tasjeel center al barsha can issue international drivers permit. Just walk in to the reception/information counter with two passport sized photos. Pay fee and it would be done in 5 mins.
