we are doing the landscaping with this company and we are now at the stage where we have to put the grass in.the guy has quoted 29 aed per square meeter of rolled , carpet grass type (Bermuda) plus 350 dirhams for each truck of sweet soil and another 6 aed for labor ..in total almost 8000 dirhams for 140 square meters of grass. that will be more that 50 dirhams for square meeter. Am i the only one that finds this outrageously expensive ?? what's the going rate for this quality of grass?

My friends bought carpet grass from the plant souk behind dragon mart and it cost them AED11 psm they charged aed 100 to deliver it to the Springs and their grass is lovely. My husband however got dupped into plugs and it still hasn't grown properly 6 months later even though it's been fertilised. starsouthern, do you know how much did they charge to lay down the carpet grass? I would prefer to use the carpet grass as I have no patience at all :) I also as I bought some Zeoplant (soil additive to save water) which has to be mixed into the soil before laying the grass down. So the person that lays the grass down must also do this for us and be able to understand the instructions from the company selling this product.

yep 2 - 3 months max, we done plugs of grass at our previuos house, just needs water water n more water and cow manure .... We watered it like 3 times a day and its much better grass than that rolled grass. Can't beat a bit of rolled grass though eh like?

A lot depends on the quality of the grass, the soil condition and the amount of water you throw on it. Turf can fail miserably as well.

Warsan is the place behind Dragon Mart :) It's just the area name. SW, how long does it take for the plug grass to grow into a perfect lawn? :) Not that long TBH, within 2 months easily.

Thanks everyone. We are at The Villa and it's true, I did feel like the guy was trying to steal money all the time. He even quoted me 70 Aed for a damas tree which cost 10 dirhams in Warsan! I have cancelled their service today and I now need to find someone to lay the grass asap. Is the grass they sell at warsan nice or will it dye in 3 months?? Don't lay carpet, put in plugs it will have far more chance of surviving at this time of year. You could try Baber landscaping 050 9902618 or ask at Warsan for some names and numbers, ask at the Dubai garden section shop, they are one of the best there.

We planted our grass ourselves and bought the carpet grass at the plant souq behind Dragon Mart. I think we paid 10Dhs or 15Dhs per square meter. It was quite some work (so I don't know if I would do it myself for a large garden), but from what I can see some of you were quoted as cost for the grass, I think it was totally worth it. At the plant souq, they also offer to deliver and lay out the carpet grass for you at an additional cost, which still sounded quite reasonable compared to the figures quoted here.

I dont know where you live and which company you are using.. When I moved to Springs I had to wait for 2 months to find a garderner to put grass in my garden. I have a small garden (dont know how many meters though), but all prices ranged from AED2500 to AED3500. One of them told me that he wants 2000 for the carpet grass and 1500 for him and labors to do the work!! At the end, my colleague who lives in meadows sent me his gardener and I paid for everything together AED1500. He brought the carpet grass and the labors, I paid additional AED100 for seasonal flowers on the side of the garden. This was 3 weeks ago and my garden looks very nice now.. in addition to the small space at the entry of the main door. I suggest that you bring different companies and dont let them steel your money. They see that you live in a nice villa so why not charge you triple the price.. My aunty lives in Sharjah and she told me that what they charge us in certain areas in Dubai is way above the normal charges!!!

You can half that cost if you have plugs, which will take far better and last longer than turf. If you want to go cheaper still then you can go to rakings and seed options. edited by Sticky Wicket on 03/04/2011

jeepers! don't say it's that much...I've only just convinced himself that we need to do something about the garden and if it costs that much he will have kittens! (and refuse to do it)
