Spent a couple of hours yesterday decluttering and tidying my daughter's bedroom - very therapeutic and I actually enjoyed it. And, once we had got through the what-do-you-want-to-keep and what-do-you-want-to-throw heaps, she was delighted that now she had a room where she has some hope of finding things - how long it will last though is of course questionable. In the UK there are companies who provide this service. Does anyone think there is a market for it here in Dubai as I am casting around for ideas for new business ventures.

Thanks for all your responses. Good to hear there are those who declutter regularly and rigorously and those who never let it build in the first place. I have my own challenges and can identify with those who need support just to start the process, for whatever reason. If you think I can help, give me a ring on 050 695 2841.

Seriously. All the clutter in my house makes me crazy. But the thought of decluttering it myself gives me anxiety. Why don't you try to break it down into manageable tasks, such as saying you will clear out one drawer a day. Once you start it will not seem such a daunting project. Be ruthless and get rid of everything you do not need or use. :D

:) Proud to say, I am getting good at that but still.. Every now and then I see something I like and especially if 'x% off' written somewhere, I can't resist. :\:

I am trying to apply the rule 'for one item you buy, get rid of one' It works for now.. But still too many stuff. Maybe I should make it 'get rid of an item every day' Just increase it to getting rid of two or three for every one you buy. :) ETA or stop buying new stuff. :D edited by Saltire on 25/01/2011

The best way of decluttering is never to let it build up in the first place. Have a few spring cleans/decluttering every year and of course far too many of us buy far too much stuff that we do not really need and sometimes do not even use. I am not the type of person who would need someone to do this for me as I see myself as being a tidy, organised and self-sufficient woman. :D

Definitely! Who doesn't have clutter? I hate it but I am unfortunately a bit of a hoarder, I think I actually need an outsider to come in and do it for me, I am far too sentimental! Where do you start? Same here, no actually I am worse, I would never let someone touch my stuff!! You should be doing it yourself, zenhabits dot net is a very useful website. JM, I would let someone guide me, and teach me how to get it done, but not use the service..

For me personally i'd say no - our living space here is way more than it was at home but will be interested to see what others think...
