Thanks everyone for your replies.
Airashiii if you could hand my husbands CV that would be a great help. How do I get your details to forward a CV?
Hi, you can contact me through here www.storiesbykatie.com/contact
Bless you!
I am in the exact same position although I suggest his CV does not have his nationality or picture on it.
At least potential employers see the 'work experience' and make a first move. As it is all about the 'nationality' and 'looks' nowadays in this part of the world, the least we can do is avoid the initial 'not selected' response.
Lots of luck coming his way.
Hi
I am in need of advice from anyone that can help. My husband had a job in a real estate agency but after 6 months they had still not processed his visa and now confessed that they were unable to process it leaving him unemployed. He has been searching for work in the real estate industry for over 8 months with no success. We have tried every method going. We have been to companies directly to hand out CV's, we have applied on websites and agencies but have got nowhere. My husband is Nigerian but has been in the UK most of his life. I can only assume that having a Nigerian passport is held against him when applying which is disheartening. He is hard working, loyal and dedicated . I am at my wits end and don't know what to do to help him. He is desperate to work and to get out of the house. Please if anyone has any suggestions or any contacts it would literally be a life saver. Thanks for any help expat family.
May I ask who is sponsoring your Husband if he has a Nigerian passport? Are you sponsoring him?
I would advice him to put a suit on, print off many copies of his CV and go around the sales offices of the large developers. Habtoor City has a sales office at St Regis and I am sure I saw some ads for their roles on Linked IN.
Good Luck!
Sorry to hear about your situation. If you search on some of the estate agents sites you will see several of them have African gentlemen working for them - their pictures coming up. Perhaps they are from Kenya or elsewhere other than Nigeria. I know from current personal experience of trying to sell a property that there seem to be more agents than buyers or sellers at the moment. There are a great deal of small self employed agents who are emailing or phoning me virtually every day to try to get my property on their books, though I have a agent I signed with. Also I would say my agent has brought more other agents to see the property than he has brought actual buyers! I even asked him - ''have those small agents actually got any clients?'' One can tell the difference between an agent and a buyer.
Sorry that my experience is not encouraging for you.
