After reading countless threads about recommended jewellers I decided to try Rishi at Calash for a quote. I told him that I've been here for years and don't want to be ripped off. Having no idea about diamonds and jewellery I need some help.
I am after a 1 carat cushion cut diamond, between F to G and Vsi to SI. To make the ring and add some small ( tiny) diamonds to the new ring I was quoted Dhs12,250. Am I being ripped off?? Please help, I'm overwhelmed with it all and don't know if I should be haggling. thanks

Dont buy G always go for the best colour you can afford and clarity is not all that. If you cant see flaws with the naked eye then why waste your time with the magnifying glass? Not like you're gonna look at it every time with one of those. Concentrate on the fininsh grade look for Very good/very good or excellent as this reflects the way the ring sparkles and will not go dull the moment you leave the shop. And no flouresents. If it fits all these catergories then not a bad price but would still bargain.

Always haggle. Take tea, do the business. It's expected. edited by Lady Bubbles on 16/03/2011

By the way I am always friendly and very pleasant of course. I bargain in US$ because it gets me places 3.65 times faster then AED.

I have been using the same jeweler (not Rishi) for 6 years at the Gold & Diamond Park... and I haggle. He knows I mean business, and I won't waste his time but I really bargain. I like bargaining so it comes naturally :) I have not seen the stone, nor the quality so it is difficult to judge with diamonds but it seems it's a bit expensive for 1 carat + chips.
