If you do - do you have Du or Etisalat? Which one do you use and are you happy with it?

We are having a heck of a time configuring the one I bought from Carrefour on strong recommendation of the saleslady there - it's the Edimax 300Mbps router...and for some reason it keeps buggering up my connection - I can't get the wireless to work at all. My laptop and devices with recognise it, but cannot seem to get internet connection

Anyways - I was thinking of bringing this one back and trying a different one - anyone have one they are using that they are happy with? We are in a 2 story house, so one with good range would be preferable!

If you have a DU connection it should be a simple plug and play (as in no configuration of the internet connection, just the home network is needed). If you have Etisalat, specially e-life, then you have to do quite a bit of configuration (username and password to get access to the internet, independent of your home network). We have the etisalat e-life, with a linksys router on top of it to create a home network. Our flat is 2500 sq ft and the router's wifi does not reach all the corners of the appartment, so we've put in an Apple Airport Xpress on top of it to extend the network. I'm sure you will need to do that in a 2 story villa. If I could go back in time to when we got the Linksys (which is great), I would just get 2 Apple Airports because they are simply WOW! We've just got the Apple Airport and the difference is AMAZING!

Thanks for all the suggestions! We have Du, and I'm trying to connect my iMacs and my macbook pro, as well as occasionally dh's Dell laptop...I didn't get any info from Du regarding my IP, subnet mask, gateway, etc - so I guess I'll try to give them a call...they haven't been very helpful so far though! Maybe I will try an Airport Express to see if that helps! Not sure why I didn't go that route the first time, since I'm a total mac girl! Thanks! I'll try it all and see where I get! edited by CdnExpat on 16/02/2011 Bearing in mind you have an Imac, you should get something from Apple. We are a family of "Apple Macs" so we have one of the time capsules things which can be used as a wireless as well. Just plus into the socket and everything connects and we are on DU. Du doesn't support wireless routers so they are no help at all. Istyle in IBM are pretty good in answering questions.

We have Du and they refuse to help with anything to do with a wireless router, even to let you know their IP, subnet mask and gateway number. When we first arrived, we bought a cheap router which was rubbish, with a terrible range, on sale at Jacky's. I'm suffering from Alzheimer's Lite, so it may well have been an Edimax, I just can't remember. We live in quite a large villa and have now got a Cisco linksys N broadband router which is working very satisfactorily. It was comparatively expensive, but very easy to set up. Got it from Geant, I think. If you want to keep trying with the Edimax, try going to the router configuration online. The most frequent one used is http://192.168.1.1, but our old one was different and I'm afraid I can't for the life of me remember what it is, though you should be able to get there from your router installation disc. You can try changing the network mode in basic wireless settings, as well as the channel number. Make sure the channel and the network modes are set to the same on your computers as they are on the router!

Your internet services provider shouldn't have any impact on how your wireless functions. Have you gone into the router configuration settings and set up the information given to you by your service provider (IP, subnet mask, gateway, etc)? If you haven't done that, it's probably why you have a network established at home but no internet. If you haven't done it, and don't have the information, call your service provider and let them know that you need to know your configuration details so you can hook up your router to the internet. They'll be able to provide it without any issue.
