I think that as long as you cannot see my undies when I bend over, it should be ok. Oh no! No one wears undies in Dubai far too hot for that.I assume you are kidding around?

I can still be respectful in my dress, and I am not one to attract too much attention. Ok sorry Mrs J we are all having a joke with you, yes it's fine to wear sleevless/strappy tops and really short mini skirts in Dubai (up to crutch is fine). Friday is always a good day to dress like that as it's party day and the malls that really will appreciate it is Bin Sougat or Wafi. The ladies on Ew are just jealous you can fit into such a dress as they are all FAT. or Mirdiff City centre - this is one of the more western, liberal malls..... Good point Izzy although i tend to just wear my swim top in there and a wrap around, a short dress would be a bit too much cover. edited by Sticky Wicket on 17/02/2011

There was a thread on here the other day about a lady in a short dress being refused service at a local staffed place - think it was Dubai Courts - she was basically told to go home and put more clothes on before she would be served....

We were staying in a hotel for a few weeks and nobody said anything then about these rules. That's because there is a difference between tourists and residents. It's just not the done thing once you are a resident and TBH is you look at the FCO website or any traveler to Dubai guidelines you will see it quite clearly states one most dress modestly and be respectful.

I think you take your chances with the risk of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Do you think it is acceptable for me to go to the malls with a sleeveless dress on and how short can I go in length? I love my minis, and want to make the most of my time with decent looking legs. I think its worth a try....

No that is not ok in the middle east, some may do it but not advisable, wear sleeves and below the knee skirt length unless you want to face some jail time as a hooker. Hahaha god you are blunt!

well depending on your age, you don't really want to look like mutton.... Not really acceptable IMO this IS a muslim country and some will be offended by your dress (or lack thereof)
