am trying to get a lawyer - no one is returning my enquiry emails :o( To mover and a shiekha and AmyAus82 - Sadly there is no one to mediate. He does not seem to want to talk about this at all. I will not sign anything though - thank you for emphasising that :o) Thank goodness I do earn some cash, would be in a real pickle if I did not! Thank you all for oyur comments and help.

If you are both married under British law, i happen to know (as mates did this last year) that if he does not have the divorce certificate he can't lodge for the divorce. If you have it you can lodge it first, in the country of your choice. You need some advice pronto. Call a lawyer and DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING. People threaten all sorts at this time and though he says he will give you nothing, that may not be his choice. Have you any family members that can mediate at all?

I know Expatriate Law deal with UK (and Australian) divorce advice. I had a very good experience with Emma Williams there. Not sure I have ever hear of a lawyer giving 'mates rates' but maybe you can talk to whoever you choose and explain the situation. They must have come across it before. Good Luck.

take out as much money as you can from the joint account so it is up to its over draft level. Use that to pay a lawyer..at least initially. If the account is in his name then it is his debt not yours. do you have any family in the UK who can give you some support?

Dizzy, have you worked in the past? do you have a degree? maybe getting a part-time job can help you out while you figure out what are the next steps for you. Good luck.

Have you had a look on the embassy page? I know that on the Uk Qatar one they have a section "when things go wrong" (no pun intended) and they list attorneys :) HTH

Hi, unfortunately I can't help but before calling a lawyer, are you sure he is serious. A request for divorce does not happen like this, there must be a reason, maybe you can make him change his mind. Good luck

I can't help. I'm sorry to say. I just wanted to let you know I am thinking about you - it must have been a shock for you to get this news from your husband, I hope everything works out for you. Keep smiling. x
