I've got a little black cat who is a stray that I feed, I can't take her in as we have two cats already. I've put up notices and asked here if any one wants her but I've had no response.

I have no issues continuing to feed her although she would desperately love a home, my concern is what will happen to her when we move villas?

To those of you who feed the strays... have you thought about what to do if you move?

Hi Ozlilly I assume that you tried everything like posters, etc.. I was feeding one cat as his owner left the country for 6 weeks but now I feeding additional 2 cats who smell food and come. So the one I am feeding in my garden (the 1st one), I still do that in my garden but I go and sit with him until he finishes his food. The other 2 I leave food for the food between small trees opposite my villa. The thing these other 2 always fight together and my house cats freak out when they hear them :( Anyway I saw a little black cat but LONGHAIR, 10 days ago near Spinneys. I hope you find your cat soon, I am in springs 2, not sure if that is close to you but I will keep an eye for a black little cat.

hopefully for now you can find a neighbor who will look after it... I only feed the stray cats sometimes once, sometimes twice a week at the most and sometimes go 2 weeks without feeding them so they still have to rely on themselves to find food. And I do not feed any cat that comes onto our property. I only leave food by the garbage dumpsters on our side of the block. we shoo all cats that try to come in... or my cat chases them out LOL...

where do you live -where we are there is a black cat that seems sweet but homeless. it let me stroke it once when I fed it. We have several cats who are already neurotic without this one muscling in on the action. I see it all the time on the street.

As has been said, this happens a lot - and while you are trying to help kitty, in the long run you're not doing him any favours. If you can, catch and get the cat spayed/neutered and return him to his turf - then after a few days or weeks, stop feeding him everyday at the same time. Maybe every other day but at odd times - if you feed him now before work - do it when you arrive home. After a couple of weeks - start doing it on odd days. It seems cruel, but if you're not prepared to take him in and feed him full time forever, he has to learn to forage on his own. I have 3 rescue cats of my own (and have paid to have innnumerable bin cats spayed/neutered and released). I can't save them all by myself, I do what I can to stop the spread of unnecessary suffering in my little corner of the world.

This is the dilemma that so many kind hearted people find themselves in. The street cats becomes accustomed to receiving the food & care, that when it stops, they are at a loss to survive again. The best you can do in the event you have to move or leave is to find someone in the nieghborhood to take on the responsibility from you. I have a friend who fed street cats and when she left Dubai, she handed the rains to another friend :) I was feeding a street cat, and asked my neighbor to keep looking after it when we moved (they had also been feeding him while we were) any way, went back to pick up some last bits to find the cat really full on crying sitting by the back door, so we just picked him up too, and now he's sleeping at the top of one of my cabinets where he sleeps most days... no longer a street cat, but a big fat lazy house cat :) Babbs is right, ask a neighbor, although if you're anything like me you'll be taking the kitty along
