Is there a place where I can buy good frames at a good price? All I see are branded stuff.
Also is there really much difference in the branded stuff and the regular ones ( if there are any avialable in dubai?)
I have always worn glasses and got them made in Pakistan.. now I need some made and would have to make do with getting them made here or in canada, and that is turning out to be 3 times more expensive!
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Oh and has anyone bought them online?

where in Dubai will i get Nicky Nina and Maria B clothes? I get them here in London and when I lived in Texas I usually had to go to NY or if I knew an auntie who would pick it up for me, but if it's all in Dubai, then I don't mind. I just love the clothes and jewelry. I went to pakistan 5 yrs ago to go Wedding shopping with my step mom and some of her friends, but they have no reason to go now. :(

The security situation in Pakistan has debilitated over the last few year. And personal safety should be a major factor for both Pakistanis and foreigners considering travel to Pakistan. And I would not recommend anyone to go to Pakistan specially for shopping in these particularly volatile times. But for me, and many other expatriate Pakistanis, there are family ties that attract us to visit Pakistan despite the threats.

well to be honest crimes have always been high but life goes on... atleast it used to.. now there is an atmosphere of stress. Its just no the same! My parents were there for 2 weeks 2 months back.. and said its getting worse everytime they go. Just not worth it any more if you no longer have famiily over there. I went about 2 years ago for a wedding and had loads if fun myself.. Karachi is the most fun for me cuz i grew up there and know places and stuff.. but its the most dangerous to go to now as well. Hubby is from islamabad and would go there if we had to visit ... but I am not a big fan.. its quite boring after karachi:)

I would love to go again and do some major shopping... but these days i sufice on having someone shop for me and getting it shipped here. Plus you can get most of the stuff in dubai as well. why? crime can't be thaaat high?

re glasses frames - I buy what suits in the sales. Dont care whether it's classy, fashionable or what - just what suits me and the shape of my face and at the best price. It's the lens that's important as far as I'm concerned, not the frame, and as long as the glasses look reasonably ok and sit comfortably on my nose that's fine by me. re travelling to Pakistan - we visited about four years' ago and had the most wonderful time, met some fabulous people and ate some brilliant food (at The Village in Lahore and also at Cockoos (sp?) near the Golden Mosque). Would love, love to be able to go back but everybody we know in Lahore and Karachi advises us not to do this at the moment. It's such a shame as we really loved our short visit - just 3 nights - and would love to be able to return and see and learn more.

When you move to Dubai, you'l find that most Pakistani goods are easily and cheaply available :) However, if you still want to visit Pakistan - it is probably better for women to go in groups. And if all the people in your group are non-urdu speaking, it's recommended to have a local "guide". The two cities where you'd do the best shopping would be Karachi (1.5 hours flight time from Dubai) or Lahore (3.5 hours flight time). If you add the flight duration plus time spent at the airport and for shopping, I think it'd be too hard to manage all of it in one day. i speak hindi. i want to go in a pakistani group. i want some GOOD shopping.

I generally buy my glasses from Pakistan too. But broke one set and needed a spare one and didn't want to spend over 500 on a branded pair. So I went to an optician in Satwa (near the mosque parking) and got a pair made for about AED120. The shop didn't have a lot of variety in terms of design but I found one that I liked and it lasted me a long time. However, I'd recommend that you carry your prescription with you.

I think they do a free test.. or else its really cheap if you get glasses made there. I had one lens replaced because my kid broke it and they did a free test. I believe it was at yateem opticians. I ve been wearing specs since I was 7 and I have always had my eyes tested at the opticians. Yes. They don't charge for an eye test.

Top of the head,I can say Yateem Opticians in MOE... There's also one in the ground floor, at Lulu Al BARSHA.... They're kinda good. A friend got a cheap glasses made in Karama for AED 100.. Karama Centre.. No idea about the name though and she's not living here anymore..
