Help - what should I do?

We've found our maid and she is meant to start with us next week. She currently works for our neighbours who are leaving Dubai next week and have to vacate their property on the weekend... so we agreed that the maid could move her things over to our villa on the weekend whilst she still works for them the remaining week they are in town...

the saga now is:
I'm in Oz, DH is back in Dubai, returning to Oz on Monday. I got our new to be maid to take over her passport copy, visa and photos to DH last night so he could get work to help us with the visa process... she has since told DH that she has applied for a visa to Canada and may only be around for a couple of months so said she may as well stay on the current visa she has, which is with the family she is currently working for, but whom leave next week to return to the UK for good. Her visa with them is still valid however until October.

Needless to say when I got this text message at midnight last night I was not impressed. But now I don't know what to do? Do we pay to transfer her visa over to us only to have her leave in a couple of months time and then have to find someone new and go through it all again?
Should I tell her she can no longer move in and that she should have mentioned this to us initially because we wouldn't have bothered to take her on?

I don't know what to do?? Pls help!

TIA

Moving to Canada sounds fishy to me too - in order to get a visa she would need to be a some kind of professional - nursing, PT, etc. are the most common among Philippina immigrants to Canada, unless her husband is a professional?

I've lived in the ME for a lot of years and frankly, I've heard this "moving to Canada" thing more than once. Usually, it's shorthand for, "I'm holding out for a better position and I don't want to be on your visa." So, if you do go ahead and let her move in and work for you, expect her to disappear one day without any warning.

Why would you even consider taking on all this hassle for - what ? A year at the most? :\: But with all the added complications. NO, NO. NO.

Given it would be illegal for her to live and work with you while on her old bosses visa, and that it is expensive to do the whole visa thing (organising her on your sponsorship), I would say sorry to her, and find a different maid.

Have to say she is being upfront with you. Nevertheless if you shell out for her visa you will end up losing out cause you don't get that the money you spent on processing her visa except for your deposit. Best to start afresh and get someone who is happy to sign a one year contract.

Yikes Sorry but this sounds too messy and with too much drama I'd back out and say you need a maid who can guarantee a year

Sorry, I would get her stuff out and be rid of her from your lives. You do not want her even entering your property unless she is sponsored or it is under processing. It is illegal anyway you look at it. [b'>Right now it is your DH and a female who is not related to him, nor sponsored by him.[/b'> Oooh, a co-habiting angle - eek!

My husband has just said no they (the neighbours) visa is not being cancelled as yet because the man has work to do in Dubai and will be returning here on and off until the end of the year. They are moving now though because of end of school term and their children will start school in the UK with the new term. As for the maid... she is still working for them until they leave which is about the 8th of April, but they all had to get out of the Villa by the 1st of April - we said that she could move her stuff over and stay at the house but still continue to work for them because we aren't back from Oz until the 5th of April anyway. My husband has e-mailed to say he will let her move her stuff in but she isn't allowed to stay there until we get home - she has a sister she may be able to stay with at night time if the neighbours dont have room for her where they are going for their last week. Then when we get back I can discuss with her the whole canada thing and then tell her that she either commits for a year or she needs to leave. <sigh>

Yes I'm sure it's illegal for her to live with you and work for you whilst not being sponsored by you. If her current family are leaving are they cancelling their visas? If so, hers will be cancelled too.

i guess i just wanted to check that a) it is illegal for her to work for us whilst under the other family's visa even though it is valid until October... and b) we really like her, she was perfect for us and now I don't know if we should even let her use the room until she does move - IF she does move to Canada. I don't know that she will have anywhere to go if we tell her she cant move in.

Agree, don't sponser her. It's good she's letting you know now, then later. I'm sorry, but shouldn't you know the answer?

simple, find another maid. A contract is for a year, tell her you wont employ her unless she commits to the year.
