How long is the process for a new maid?

Hello EW,

We will be moving to Dubai shortly and I haven't yet started searching for a job as I dont know how the kids will cope if I find a job (since we dont have a maid in place yet and the kids are really small).

Having read the guides on EW, I would prefer to do a local hire/visa transfer as then I can evaluate the person that I am getting in a face to face interview.

Assuming that we finalise someone within 2 weeks of landing there, how long does the paperwork typically take? Is it likely to be closer to 1 week or 1 month?

Thanks,

There are so many aspects involved in this process that any estimate will be only a wild guess. To find a maid that you wish to hire and she wishes to join you - How are you planning to find her or you have already somebody sorted? What is the visa status for this person when you intend to begin the process. It could be tourist, employment or cancelled status. Depending on nationality, formalities could be different hence time taken will be different. Start as soon you can, it can take few weeks to several months. What is the best way to go about looking for a maid? Besides recommendations for friends, if you are new to Dubai, where would you start?
