HSBC Airmiles?

Being a bit slow, we've just noticed we've amassed some airmiles using our HSBC credit card here. I've found reference on line to a blue card for Air Miles UAE, but is this the same thing as the HSBC Airmiles? How do you claim them? Do you need this blue card, and if so, how do you get the HSBC Airmiles credited to it? (I'm not used to the admin of airmiles, I just use up husbad's!)

If you ever need to do a "visa exchange run" & have accumulated airmiles they could be used for this. Just book at least 8 days ahead, for a same day return flight eg Dxb/Doha for 37000 miles + 145dhs tax. This is for an EK flight which normally costs 3000+ and.... if you are a Skywards member you will get tier miles & bonus skywards miles...and full duty free allowance. Most flights have a 1or 1.25 hour turnaround so should be do-able OR if you have Exec. Lounge access & a couple hours to spare you can have a 3 hour stopover there to relax, read enjoy a snack & glass of wine etc......

You can get vouchers etc issued at Lamcy Plaza Air Miles booth and some stores are set up now e.g. Damas that they can deduct the mile straight from your account. Personally I would rather have that paper voucher in my hand.

Thanks Pomegranate. I really like the Marco Bicego and Roberto Coin that Damas sells. Unfortunately I only have about enough air miles for a toaster, so it looks like I will be waiting a while still!

giantpanda - I just redeemed some miles a month ago and it was 15000 airmiles for a 100dhs voucher. Had a lot of miles so was able to get just over half the cost of a bracelet (after negotiation!) paid for by airmiles! And then when paying for the balance, the guy swiped my airmiles card for the total amount of the bracelet.....so earned more! It's a really good deal, no hassle in-store at all. Have purchased a few bits and pieces from Damas over the years with the airmiles. Would have easily been able to redeem a flight for the amount used up but am really happy with items I have. HTH.

Pomegranate, What a great idea! Can you remember how many dirhams you get for an air mile in Damas?

I've never used my miles for a plane ticket but use them normally for Damas vouchers and get something sparkly as my own reward LOL - haven't had any problems with the Airmiles office or redeeming them in-store.

m_king I have never had a problem dealing with them but then I havent ever used them for an urgent quick quick flight and so from that point of view I couldnt comment, but for me, I've never had a problem with them. They have always called me back with numerous options and given me the choice and I have always made the flight I wanted. Sorry it hasnt worked out well for you.

Can I just add that unless you contact them well in advance and have lots of time, they can be a NIGHTMARE to deal with. I needed to get to Cairo urgently. I left two messages and sent two emails. It took 3 days for someone to get back to me. In the meantime, I kept trying and got through to someone and told them it was urgent but I still didn't get an itinerary until two days later and then it was only with one of the two airlines I was interested in. I asked for the other and explained my outgoing date had changed to the 22nd of March. I have YET to hear from them!!!

Actually you can use your HSBC.Blue air miles to buy flights on any airline. Just contact airmiles me and they will sort it all. We do it all the time ;-)

Thanks for that, Pomegranate. So in effect, it's not actually airmiles as in travel by air?

Yes, HSBC airmiles is linked with AirMiles UAE. To redeem your rewards, go to the website airmilesme.com and select the reward that you have enough miles for, and you can collect it from their office or have the voucher posted to you. Depending on what reward you choose, you can redeem instore as well. I think HSBC automatically signs you up for airmiles with their credit card. Otherwise, you need the blue card to show at other outlets where airmiles can be earned (e.g. Spinneys).
