Speaking of F&C, where to get malt vinegar here? We are using grape vinegar and it's just not the same. I can't find malt vinegar anywhere??? What am I missing? Waitrose

I read once that there were very few reviews on the deep fried Mars bar as no one had lived long enough afterwards to write one! lol x

@CanadianInDXB Awaiting your British Kitchen review! :) Hope your reviews are based off of cod as I don't like Hammour or Pollock for f&c here. ;)

I can second or third the F&C Shop in Mirdif (Pink Mall)...we've ordered from there a few times and been happy with food. Quite big portions, fish was good, chips great and have so far resisted the fried mars bar lol. DH had steak pie last time and wouldn't recommend it tho. Never actually been to the shop as have always had delivery which got to say is really fast so food still hot on arrival....can't be doing with soggy chips, oh and they did supply a little pot of vinegar!!

Train to Ipswich then bus? No, meet me at my Mum's and she can drive us -you'd be on the bus for days otherwise as it'd stop at every village on the way. :)

Second Mirdif Fish & Chips behind the Pink mall in Mirdif. DH used to work at Harry Ramsdens and he says they are good. He had haddock which was great, I had hamour - not so great. The chips were freshly made ( and wonderful) and the mushy peas was ok. My favourite was the fried mars bar, mmmm!! Don't think anybody dines in, we were the only ones there the entire time, saw loads of home deliveries going out. There are only 3 tables with chairs, in a very small space, so you will feel crowded. Nothing to look at, the place is inside a building and just opens out onto a corridor.

No offence, and not wanting to put a spanner in the works, but may I get a Brit perspective on the latest F&C offerings around about town? I mean: what's good now? Who's serving the best F&C right now?! I've had F&C here and there, some good, some bad, but I need a great recommendation from someone who was raised on the tang of vinegar and with the grubbiness of newspaper on their fingers before I next venture out for the Real Thing. :D My review is shared by my Brit husband who grew up eating it weekly from his uncles chippy in the UK. For the record, I hate that my f&c comes in styrofoam containers here...where is the newspaper or butcher block paper??? And what's w/ the skimping of the vinegar??? I need at least a half bottle of it, leave the tartar sauce and mayo, I just need good ol' vinegar!

If you go to the one in Pink Mall, can you post your review? I'm curious what others think of it. My suggestion is to call it in advance, because they clearly start cooking soon as the order is in (which is a good thing). But that means if you go, you'll wait and there's not much to do at Pink Mall. Will do, Gleeky. I'll be sure that WaxMuch doesn't get to read it! *glaring*

The one in the Pink Mall is the best in this area. I had an eh experience there, but it smelled really good ;), so we'll definitely give it another try. Contrary to what others think, I think the Fish & Chip Plaice next to Irish Village restaurant is a poor excuse for a chippy. The fish is breaded like it's been pre-made and frozen. The chips were bleh too. I would never go there again, seriously. There's nothing wrong with it, but there's nothing right. Hope that makes sense. Hands down, the best F&C we've had so far was the vendor who was at The Pet Show last month. The portion was proper (the chips left something to be desired), the fish was cooked well, etc. I forget who it was, but I think it was one of the chippy's in the New Dubai area. So not close to Mirdif (BOOOOOO!).
