You just need them all!!!!! But I think all the ladies allready convinced you. Can one of you give me an excuse to buy an Ipad 2, I allready have the "old" one...................... For "unlocking" an Iphone4, you can do this yourself in Itunes.

Bowbells, If your iPhone 4 was unlocked in UK then it will (should) be unlocked anywhere and accept a local SIM card. I think only IOS 4.1 is unlockable at present so if you have upgraded past there you are stuffed for now. Jailbreaking is different to unlocking and just opens the iphone for third party apps. If your iPhone 4 can be made to work here and you then upgrade the OS to 4.3 then you can use it to give your iPad net access over 3G otherwise you could get a mifi device like the one 3 sells in UK. To Adviceseeker, another reason to have both (not that I think you need further excuses) is that apps (mainly) work on both devices so if you buy an app for iPhone you can also d/l and use it on the iPad for free - dedicated iPhone or iPad apps not included. You will also be able to sync your Kindle books across iPad, iPhone and Kindle so you can use Kindle to read a book outside, iPhone through the day and iPad at home and each device will update to where you left off. Your big decision now is iPad or iPad2.... oooohhhhh !!! ipad 2 ipad 2 ipad 2 !!!!!!!!!

Just opened my itunes but there doesnt appear to be a photos tab on it (just music, films, tv programs, books and purchased).... Do you have any idea why that might be? perhaps I should try it on my husbands mac?? I think that you're just looking in the wrong place. Once you connect your iPad and you have iTunes open, under the title 'DEVICES' on the left side tool bar you should see your iPad. Click on that and the details of your iPad will appear in the main window. The last tab will say 'Photos'. Click on that and all will be revealed! HTH

I have both but to be honest, I really don't find having an iphone that useful here. In the UK I used it for everything, gps/maps walking around London, train routes, tube maps, real time bus times at my stop, ipod on the train, email on the go, etc etc. here, I'm just not that important! I don't need my email in my purse, I only use the ipod feature in car of which I could just use my ipod, and I have my GPS in the car as I never walk further than I can see from my starting point :( If you are only buying 1 - I would definitely say buy the ipad. I don't even enjoy reading but it is great when you are sitting around waiting in say the DR office or having a quiet coffee on your own. I just recently went back to work last week and I used my ipad in a meeting because we needed to reference an email and it was so much quicker than getting out our laptops but you would not have been able to properly see the layout on a small phone screen. ispearing - 1-yes 2-not sure I have not had this issue 3-when you sync your ipad. itunes should open on your laptop. There is a tab in there for photos. You should be able to choose an album or folder that you want to sync, just like you do your music. You can tell it all of your photos or just certain ones, again, just like when you do your music on your ipod. Bowbells - just get a portable mifi device. I have 3G but it is much more cost effective to use a mifi device and use it for all of your devices at once!

OK - Its my first experience with apple (except my ipod) and hubby bought me an ipad for Valentines (he has a mac pro). I'm hopeless and so far have only used it to receive emails. What else can I do on it? 1. Can I stream UK TV on it (if I have a V** of course)? 2. Some websites say I cant view them because I need Flash Player but when I try to download it I cant because its not compatible with apple... Is there something else I can download so that I can view these websites? I have lots of photos on my laptop - how do I get the photos onto the ipad from there? I'm hopeless at all this technical stuff but really want to use my ipad after having heard all your comments below. Thanks in advance and sorry to hijack the thread....

Dh just bought me an I pad - not 3G so actually seriously dissapointed - apart fron the portable keypad which is great ... I have an I phone which needs unlocking - It was unlocked in the UK on a Pay as you go with O2 - and is supposed to be able to accept a DU sim but it doesnt .. read soooo much on the Jailbbreaker and now too nervous to have it un locked in case they really mess it up .. I have i pod , pad , phone , blackberry - laptop but a complete technophobe ! the pad is fantastic for emails, reading and viewing photos so you do need an I phone too as you cant make calls on the pad ! edited by bowbellscowbells on 26/03/2011

Hi AdviceSeeker Yes - I tend to use them all! I'm studying so I use the iMac as my main computer and keep all my information on it (with a back up) I probably use it the most for research and writing assignments. I use the ipad more for the fun things! As another poster said - it is like a companioon... you can surf, etc while watching tv! I'm using the macmini connected to the main tc so we can stream, download and watch, etc. When he get some time DH says he is going to rip his dvd collection to the mini.... we wants to be be fully digital! :-) All valid points! @mrsO do you use your IMAC and macMini much now that you've got an ipad?

I don't like the small screen of the iphone so much prefer for the ipad for apps, games, books, for traveling on the plane etc. I consider the ipad to be like a more portable laptop. Absolutely room in one's life for both devices.

Perhaps I'm not the best person toreply as I love gadgets. I have iPods, iPhone, iPad, kindle, blackberry and various other laptops and net books. I use them all for different things of course: iPhone - personal phone Blackberry- work phone iPod- for music and podcasts Kindle - as an ereader iPad - as my travel computer, in front of the tv computer, in bed computer Laptops- for work Netbook- for things I can't do on iPad like downloading tv shows, excel spreadsheets etc.

I have a Macbook, iphone and ipad, and I use them all. I tend to use the macbook at home when sending emails, because I find it easier to type on the regular keyboard. When travelling, I take the iPad & can use it for reading ebooks, watching movies when on the plane, and for the internet if I need to. And you do need a phone, of course, so get the iPhone. I wouldn't have bought the iPad for myself, but I got it for Christmas, and I'm really impressed with it Yes, clearly you need both - it's obvious to me :)

I have an iPad and an iPhone 4! ( and an iMac and a macmini and an iPod) The main benefit of the iPad is the size if the screen which makes surfing websites and writing emails so much easier. Also great for watching movies and playing games and I've used in quite a bit for reading PDF files with the iBooks! Great for quick and easy access as you don't have to wait for the computer to boot up! I keep it in the kitchen and it's so handy to look something up without having. To go to a computer! My 2.5 year old loves it too.... Some great app to keep the wee'uns entertained. Also love the iPhone. I carry it everywhere but mainly use it for the phone, text, calendar, quick email updates, camera, photo album, calculator, currency exchange! So the excuse I'd use to buy them both is - iPad is too big to carry about all the time but fantastic to surf, read, etc. iPhone is so many things in your pocket/handbag!

Because the ipad looks really, really pretty and it doesn't work as a phone? ;) No, that doesn't cut it here, either. I've only got an ipod in the Apple range, but do have a phone which is waaaay too smart for me, and a Kindle, so I'm not being allowed an ipad for my birthday. Do any of your Apple machines have an e-reading facility? If not, could you use that as an excuse to buy yourself an ipad, at least? And then you'll need the phone, because of course you need a phone.. edited by simpleasabc on 24/03/2011 See, now I'm convinced!!! clearly I need them both, as how else could I talk on the phone and read at the same time? I need the iphone because my blackberry is broken (....as i dip it in a bucket of water....) and an ipad is needed as an e-reader! yay
