Thank you, it also bugs me when people think they can use the NHS even though theyve not lived in the UK for years.

I think you just hit the nail on the head SM..........what if something goes wrong. Even the locals go elsewhere for treatment Even Sheikh Mo went abroad for his treatment last year if I'm not mistaken... What treatment :\:

Good on you Mrs Mean I take my hat off to you, so many believe as they're British Citizens they can just go home and get treated on the NHS. I wish you health and good luck

If you are British and not paying full taxes there then you're not legally entitelled to treatment in the UK on the NHS as has previously been discussed here, you can only have emergency treatment or claim on your insurance ..... Some 'get away with it' but essentially you're not entitled if you have residence in another non European country. I wouldnt use the NHS

I do need an op, and as I live here, I'm going to have the op here. Unless I'm missing something, I don't see any compelling reasons to go back to the UK specifically for the op.

I think some of the hospitals here are excellent and it just depends on the situation, if a major op then I may consider the UK but I do not necessarily think it is always better to go there, I know people that have been very happy with treatment here. But Mrs Mean - I really would just go to American (I have never had a bad experience there luckily) or Welcare or somewhere ! If I had a broken arm I would not consider going to the UK and I would not wait around in pain either - better to get it fixed asap ! Good luck am sure you will be fine ;)

Although there was a well known figure who had his kidney troubles treated here at AH but then that was a step up from his usual environment! ;)

It all boils down ( for me) on back up - [b'>professional back up[/b'> ie IF something were to go wrong, is there a higher knowledge base somewhere in that country that would help.... I feel I would only have that in the UK.

Thought I'd just ad, you'll probably get a influx of answers saying how the UK is definitely the best choice as the doctors are far superior and you can't trust the doctors in dubai- but in truth, there are some very good surgeons/doctors here, and there are equally some very bad ones in the UK so the bottom line is do your research.

It depends on what operation and where the best surgeon worked.
