Does this then go straight to the person selling the item? Why would they not include any contact details of they were keen to sell?

Hi Shelly. Yes the message you sent goes to their email. A lot of EWers in the past have said it's best to leave your mobile details off the add as otherwise they received calls at unsuitable hours ie. very late at night or stupid o'clock in the morning. Also cuts down on the time wasters. HTH
