hi guys, me and my husband are moving to a new house with a huge garden and we want to add another member to our family. we have 2adult cats, 4 and 5years. one of them is handicapped through some butcher vet in dubai.. she almost got killed by them but thank God we could safe. now she can not properly balance and cant hear but i would say she is a happy kitty :)

she is very shy and scared of anything new.

i know the moving into the new house will be a huge change already. the other cat is dominant and i think she will boss the puppy around, which is ok. i am more worried about the handicapped kitty..

i was reading online how to introduce them to each other without freaking both totally out. i know that i should first let them smell each other and give it time and put them in their cages and slowly get them to know each other..

did any of you ladies have been through a similar situation? can you help me?

we will move cats and the puppy same time into the house this way it will not be a territorial thing..and hopefully they will understand that they all live there.

thanks for your help :)

May I suggest that you do not get the puppy the same time as you are moving into a new home. The upheaval for the cats will already be highly stressed and having to face a new member of the family will just add to the stress. Your handicapped kitty is already shy and uncomfortable with new things and throwing a new puppy in the mix will not be a good thing. I would wait until the cats are comfortable in their new home and have made it theirs. This could be a couple of weeks to a couple of months. The cats will put the puppy in its place whether or not he is there when you move or not :) My opinion only and your kitties will thank you that they dont have to deal with packing, moving, new smells, new house, new area, upheaval, without a puppy who will want to play with them :) or... get the puppy a month before moving and intro them then. edited by SueB on 20/04/2013
