I have recently opened a new nursery in Dubai and we are discussing whether to use Letter Land or Jolly Phonics. Please can you tell me what you child's school is currently using? I am very familiar with JP, however I learnt LL at school years and years ago! The previous nurseries which I worked at all used Jolly Phonics, but I know several use LL too.

Comments on both would be greatly appreciated, as we are uncertain which one to use.

Thanks :)

We follow letters and sounds; however we use Jolly Phonics to teach the action and sing the song. We used to use LetterLand however the letters aren't formed how we would expect children to write them and the children tended to remember the letter character's name rather than the actual sound e.g instead of 's' they would say Sammy Snake. Hope that helps :)

Have a look at Letters and Sounds, produced by the DfE. This is what British curriculum schools use. This is a lovely way of introducing phonics by developing listening and speaking skills in preparation for more formal phonics later on. Good luck

Will you be having an FS2/reception year class? If not there is really no need to introduce children to phonics with a formal system. This is covered in FS2 Just let them play!!! This is what they need.
