Indian owners make the fiscal decsions behind the scenes. edited by Little Poppet on 01/02/2011 I know i'm going to be jumped on, but out of sheer curiosity, how does the owners nationality have any relevance to the matter? Are his business decisions. in your opinion, any different from any other businesses run by other nationals who run a business for profit? Perhaps she was just sending out a clue without naming the school. Or maybe the nationality does have some bearing.....it all depends.

I think I know which school/s you are talking about if so the promises go back even further than 2 years BTW!! I moved my children & now they have proper swimming lessons, fields for sport & playground equipment as they saying goes all work & no play, makes Jack a dull boy :)

Hi Little Poppet, Personally I do not believe you are being unreasonable by being annoyed at the continued empty promises that the school is making. It is terribly frustrating and quite unfair when fees are paid by you, regardless of whether supported by a Company and expectations are not met. The excuse that "this is Dubai and things are done all in good time" wears a little thin when you are trying to promote a well balanced, all round academic, social and physical educational experience for your child/ren. If it were me, certainly given my childrens ages and the fees that we pay I would most definately be looking elsewhere and putting names on waiting lists and just like Sugarbeach has said would weigh up the options when a place/s became available. I believe that the physical aspect of shaping our children is equally important as the academics but that is just me. I do not believe that it has to be the biggest or the best or the most eloborate or the most regarded school but to me having the school function with all facilities gives our children the choice and the ability to thrive on that level too. How long can you continue to be fed information to keep you happy? If you genuinly do not care about the facilities then that is one thing but if you do and if it is really bothering you then you must make the initial steps to try and give your child/ren a better or your idea of a more appropriate schooling environment that is offering everything that you are wanting them to have access to. Just my 2 cents. Goodluck with your decision making! SH

Is this school in Sports City by any chance? A friend from US who is moving here in April was concerned about the same things, so chose ASD in preference - she was not wanting to get lower fees, just wanting the best for her gifted DD and supersporty DS.

a) Start applying for other places, it would not be an immediate move (given the waiting lists), a place may not become available for a while yet and when a place does come up, weigh up the options and make a decision then. b) It is reasonable to ask for lower fees, but can't see it happening (supply and demand again). c) Yes, you are in a bad mood today.:D

DH and I are becoming increasingly annoyed at the lack of facilities, or rather, the empty promise of future facilities at our child's school. Academically the school is great and we are happy with the education being offered. The teachers are committed and of a high standard but the schools lack of facilities have us debating whether to start looking elswhere. Pool has been promised for quite literally almost 2 years- still no progress but every promise under the sun that 'it's coming', ditto to cafeteria, suitable play areas for children, auditorium etc. I can only imagine the Head's frustration at these delays (seeing as he is the 'face' of the school) whilst the Indian owners make the fiscal decsions behind the scenes. So... my question: would you consider moving your child? DO you feel it is reasonable to expect a reduction in the fees being paid?
