Try www.theuniquetravel.co.uk Sue is a personal friend of mine, specialising in Sri Lanka. She is UK based, her business partner Roshan is in SL. They will work out an itinerary to suit you at a moment's notice. We went in Nov and loved every minute. Don't be too ambitious with the time you have available or you'll spend all your time in transit.

Hi manu, I'm a Sri lankan....yes, you've chosen the up country side.So yes,it's mountains and waterfalls and tea estates!but it's gorgeous out there...but if you wanna like the beach you need to go down south to Bentota etc.Check these people out .They are very good at putting things togather... http://www.associatedholidays.com/# Hi sherox, I'm thinking of spending two months in Sri Lanka in July/August but I have some questions about where to stay, weather etc. I will mostly be by myself with two small boys so I need to get it right. If you could take some time to answer some questions it would be great. Email me if you can: [email protected]. Thanks Ofcource!Wll mail you now...

If you get the chance and have the time, go and climb Sigiriya, very interesting and amazing to see how the workers carried all the rocks to the top up those tiny little hand and foot holds. It's a good workout too! ;)

it's fine at night. the troubles ended a while ago (in fact the war was at fever pitch the day i landed there and i never felt unsafe at all - and i was a woman travelling on my own.) if you don't mind sleeping/dpzing in the car you can go straight to kandy. i arrived at about 3 am and did exactly that, stopping off at the elephant orphanage on the way. it's tiring but if you're trying to cram a lot in then worth it i think. to be honest i was so excited to be there (it's so amazing) that i stayed awake all the way through. i am also getting excited after reading your post :)

sounds good...i don't want to go to beach.just countryside. we are landing at coloumbo airport at midnight and are thinking of taking a driver and go down to negombo and stay there for the night. then from there we can go to kandy.is it safe to travel at night? although i have been told that colombo is 1 hr drive and negombo 20 min drive.

you will LOVE sri lanka! you are right not to cram too much in if you only have 3 nights, as it's a long old drive down to the beaches. it's not that far in distance but the roads are not great so it takes a while. if you are in kandy (which is lovely) then you must go and see the elephant orphanage (not far away). I'd recommend getting a driver who can take you around. i used www.boutiquesrilanka.com to organise my trip. they were amazing.

hi manu, we are out there too this weekend for 4 nights in total. my friend recommended Al Arabi travel on Sheikh Zayed Road (04 3433929) to me and in the end we booked through them after hours spent in the internet and not being able to make up our minds. It was a tiny bit more pricy then using booking.com but now we have a local tour agency being behind our driver etc pp. We will be met at the airport to drive to Kandy, 3 overnight stays there with several tours and 1 overnight stay close to the airport. Have a great time I am sure we will too ;-)
