Good morning :). Most of the threads on the illigal maid matters are from 2011/2012. I want to do the right thing and would like to know if I can have someone on their own "sponsor" visa living in my home for a month, until we finalize her visa with my husband's company. Also, does she need to leave the country or can we ask her sponsor to cancel her visa and take her on right away? Could her sponsor write a no objection letter or is this only if her husband is her sponsor? looking forward to some help in clarification before I take the next step. TIA :)

Hi unsourire, I will share what I believe to be true for UAE legally. in UAE, you can only work for your sponsor, nobody else. Own visa is illegal way. For a maid to be working at your home, you have to hire her on your personal sponsorship and not of the company. If, of the company, depending on license and activity, it may or may not be permitted to work other than office premise. On personal sponsorship, you can do the cancellation, New visa issued and status change, within the country. It is a bit expensive though. With last line what I understand is this: there is a lady, who is on her husband sponsorship and wishes to work as maid in your house. If you have NOC from her husband, will it be a legal status for her to work at your home? No it won't be. Maid has to be on your personal sponsorship or on an agency sponsorship. In case of maid, there is no labor department involved. Had she applied for an office job, her husband's NOC and labor approval was sufficient for her to work. But your need is for home hence not applicable. Hope this helps.
