ibuprofen must not be given to asmatics.
Good point...and I only started using that after advice from a good GP.
ETA - it's not good for little ones with tummy upsets either.

Paracetamol, ibuprofen and saline.
Depends on how young they are really. For the first two years (after 3 months) I use nothing other than paracetamol (Calpol/Panadol), ibuprofen (nurofen/brufen) and saline drops without talking to a Dr. If they are unwell more than three days or get a fever over 38.5C I head for the Dr and follow their advice.
Current recommendations are that specific cough and cold medications should not be used in children under 2yrs unless supervised directly by a medical professional.
