Mirdif, municipality and cats :(

I saw this post on the Javacats site on Facebook:

"Javcats Cat Rescue
To all animal welfare groups, I have just received to my horror, information that in the past two weeks the Municipality have trapped and killed 150 cats in Mirdif. The preferred method years ago was poisoning which was bad enough, and I hear the new one is gassing. In any event both are barbaric. Keep pets indoors, its just not worth the heartache "

Does anyone know anymore about this or have any experience having seen them / lost a cat etc? My cats go outside but do not have microchips and I also have two strays I care for but that do not have collars/chips and now I will worry about them also....

they do not have a vet at this time. On the main board titled *keep your cat in!* I was informed that some are picking up tagged cats, that means if you lose your cat, get down to the DM every day and check BOTH rooms physically for your cat. <em>edited by SueB on 31/01/2011</em>

Am I correct in thinking DM municipality still don't have a vet & are not doing vaccinations, does anyone know?? BTW I totally agree with SueB, cats must be up to date with vaccinations, be identichipped and have annual DM registration tags. Personally I go further by keeping my pets indoors.

DM will not take a cat wearing a DM tag. I agree with Sue...take them to the DM vet and for next to nothing they'll be safe from disease and safe from the DM team. ETA - ignore me! My info is out of date. See posts above. ;) (will sit quietly in the corner and keep quiet now. :) ) <em>edited by Green-ish on 01/02/2011</em>

if your cats have been getting their yearly shots they, by law, have to be chipped...so, get their shots and chip...a collar and have them registered at DM by the vet.

You need to make sure that any cat that goes outside has it's collar with municipality tag on it.
